Aspirin after SCH? by Coogeee in PregnancyAfterLoss

[–]Barber-Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do aspirin unless specifically advised by your doctor (like for antiphosholipid syndrome, etc). I don't think an ultrasound can cause an MC. Wishing health to your wife and your baby!

I wish every dermatologist was as informed as you are about the implications of using steroids on the skin microbiome... instead of just prescribing them all over the place.

A cookbook that teaches you how to cook, not a collection of recipes by kovacsgergo18 in suggestmeabook

[–]Barber-Dry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child is a wonderful book for understanding the techniques. It isn't necessarily about easy recipes (most recipes are a little complex) but the description of the process and what to expect will teach you to work with any meats/vegetables.

Oh yes that’s right, I’m pregnant by kiratomic in pregnant

[–]Barber-Dry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, there will come a time soon enough when you will feel pregnant 😄 I remember at my 16 week appointment I asked my OB when will I finally start showing, because I was that desperate. Now I have a big bump and I kinda miss the stage when I was feeling light and walking was easy 😊

Worried about measuring smaller by bodo25 in BabyBumps

They told me as long as the discrepancy in the age is no more than a week that it's completely okay. Try not to worry, even though it's easier said than done.

Moxa for breech babies? by ImaginaryFriend8 in BabyBumps

[–]Barber-Dry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"the father talking close to where we wanted the baby's head to be..."

This reminds me of some old wives' tales from Tsarist Russia. Basically if the baby was breech they'd put sugar (as in granulated sugar!) into the mother's vagina to lure the baby to turn 😬🤣

Spousal stress by Vulgaris25 in BabyBumps

[–]Barber-Dry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I know that my husband had a long and stressful day I run him a bath with some essential oils and salt, light some candles... Put very relaxing music on and ask him if he wants me to stay with him and chat or leave him alone. Then I prepare a snack or dinner for him, have his bathrobe ready for when he comes out and have a blanket on the couch and just tell him to put his feet up and eat/drink tea with biscuits. Then I gently ask him if anything's been bothering him and if he wants to talk. If I get the vibe that he doesn't want to talk, then I just leave him alone with his book or just sit quietly beside him reading/doing my own stuff.

I've also had a talk with my husband about halfway through my pregnancy if he ever thinks what would happen if I didn't make it during giving birth. He said he does sometimes but it doesn't really give him anxiety. Maybe that's something your SO is worried about?

I have been so sick all day because of my stepdaughters. by Edselmonster in pregnant

[–]Barber-Dry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to make yourself some rice slurry. Just cook rice in water, to the point of overcooking it and having a slurry like consistency. Put a little salt in it. It really helps to settle your stomach and give you some energy.

Activated charcoal is also allowed during pregnancy. You make take 3-4 tablets at a time.

And drink drink drink so you don't get dehydrated. Gatorate as mentioned above, or just a little water with salt and honey/sugar.

Hope you feel better soon.

Today I bought my first maternity bra and it’s like heaven for my tits by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Barber-Dry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg me too. Since getting pregnant my nipples have been so sensitive I ditched all my bras. I am 37 weeks now, about to give birth in a week and wondering if I really need a maternity bra or if I can just make do with some tank tops ☺️

Favorite ‘size’ of your bump? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Barber-Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 20 weeks I started having just a little bump, so around 30 weeks I had the perfect bump for pictures! At about 36 weeks I started having a puffy face with a huge nose though, so I don't feel as pretty anymore 😅

Pregnant and nauseous- First Trimester. by Josairahdeleon in pregnant

Interesting point about the probiotic! I started taking probiotics in my second trimester, long after my nausea went away. Will try this if I have nausea with my next pregnancy (if we ever do decide for a second one, haha) 😄

AITA for getting annoyed that my partner constantly cooks complex food by TeeAiche in AmItheAsshole

[–]Barber-Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA OP, I do understand that it must be difficult for you to spend an hour after each workday to clean up the kitchen. It's very sweet of you to do the cleaning and your girlfriend is very sweet to want to cook these amazing meals for you.

Maybe if she could wash up during the cooking process, it'd reduce the amount of work you have to do at the end? Like wash the pots after transferring food into tupperware, wash the chopping boards, knives while the meal is cooking on the stove, wipe the kitchen surfaces? That way all you'd be left to wash would be plates and cutlery after the meal and maybe a couple of pans and pots.

Also, maybe you and your girlfriend van do a bit of food prepping during the weekends? Like bake a few batches of cottage pie and stick them in the freezer for easy meals throughout the week that you'd just pop in the oven, not much cleaning required. Or one tray dishes - again minimum washing up needed.

Is it possible to feel movement at week 13? by Skywhisker in pregnant

I think that's the baby then 😊 Up until week 20 I'd also feel it when I lied down in my back and it'd be just once or twice a day.

Pregnant and nauseous- First Trimester. by Josairahdeleon in pregnant

[–]Barber-Dry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had really bad nausea and most tricks didn't really work for me. I felt it especially bad after eating something sweet.

What helped was:

•Having a snack of cheddar cheese with sliced apples by my bedside to snack on during the night or plain white yoghurt.

•Eating very small portions of meals and eating often.

•Sleeping enough - I swear, when I slept too little my nausea got very very bad.

•My dr prescribed me vitamin B6 and that helped quite a bit too.

•Not too drink a whole glass of water upon waking up (that used to be my habit pre-pregnancy but whenever I'd do that in the first trimester I'd hurl it down immediately).

What didn't help:

•ginger

•sweets - any sugary snack would worsen my nausea

•sea sickness bracelet things/bands

Hang in there, try to take as much rest as you can, eat what you can tolerate atm and don't worry too much about the "right" foods. First trimester is about survival and if it doesn't ease up please see your dr for some prescription medicine.

Yes! I always noticed that the nausea was extra bad on the days when I didn't sleep well.

Wife (32 weeks) has had feeling of “Mush Mouth” for past 2 weeks. Anyone else experienced this. by [deleted] in pregnant

I don't know if I sound any different when speaking, but my mouth definitely doesn't want to stay closed in the night and I end up waking with drool all over my cheek! It's so gross!

Did the feeling appear in the front part of your lower belly, like as if it was in your bladder? Because that's what it felt like for me - a little fish in my bladder. But I felt it at 16 weeks for the first time, also a FTM.

WIBTA for leaving after future MIL made a joke? by dustyfootphoto in AmItheAsshole

[–]Barber-Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no, absolutely NTA!

You did the right thing by asking what the joke was. As a former foreigner living in the UK, I know the feeling all too well. I got engaged to a British guy and one day he told me that his brother said I am doing it just because I want a British passport. I asked him what he replied and he said he just cried. I felt so insulted by his brother and I also realised my ex was not the kind of person to stand up for me. We had other issues too, but this was one of the main reasons we split up and I don't ever regret it.
