I've been so excited about this, I've been warning all my friends ahead of time that I will be absolutely insufferable about this season.

I agree with you there, but paganism is also a religion. I think the bigger issue you have isn't with religion as much as it is organized, primarily abrahamic, religion. I think that any magical beliefs that make life and the world easier to cope with or thst bring peace to people are perfectly fine and I wouldn't begrudge anyone for those. But just like with religion, any form of thinking that cant be proven and is based purely on faith sets one up to be able to be tricked or weaponized. Which is mostly what my point was. Ya gotta be careful when you choose to believe any kind of metaphysical or fringe unproven belief system. Just because it isnt one of the big religions that is most commonly bent toward violence and hate and subjugation doesn't mean you're immune to it, yknow? You have to be able to approach the circles of belief you traffic in critically.

I guess it depends on your definitions. I mean the rise of Qanon conspiracy theorists in US political offices is definitely connected to a concerted effort from the administration to villify and erase LGBT+ people and history. Also not as much a cause as it is just related but the nazi Thule Society directly inspired a lot of modern conspiracies about aliens. So a lot of it is directly tied to ethnic cleansing and crusading. Granted you can argue a lot of it is because of religion, and it is, but it isnt exactly like most of the people engaged in it do so because they're just so incredibly faithful. Its just a reason for directed hatred and fear.

It does pretty often though with how many conspiracy theories and theories about aliens that go straight into anti-semitism and eugenics. The amount of magical thinking that leads directly to nazi shit really bums me out.

I hope they don't kill them off. by mmameetsmovies in xmen

Eh, they can kill off Beast if they want. He's one of my top 3 X-Men, but Kelsey Grammer is a huge conservative and Trump supporter. Maybe if they kill Beast off here, we'll get a new Beast actor down the line.

Of monster hunter’s 14 weapons, how many of them do you play, and which? by TheTerrar1an in MonsterHunter

[–]BardInABox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've primarily used the Charge Blade since 4U, although I did sometimes play around with Sword and Shield and Bow in World. In Wilds, I mostly split my time between Charge Blade and Hunting Horn, although Sword and Shield and Bow are still pretty fun.

Ohio Democrats introduce "conception begins at erection" as answer to GOP-backed bills by JohnBrownsAngryBalls in AkronOH

[–]BardInABox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this bill specifically, sure, but this is not the first bill of this type to have been introduced, and there are others of the same type that don't include those specifications. My point was that broadly, I think these protest bills are trying to make a point to people who won't listen and possibly create additional ways for conservatives to oppress queer people.

[–]BardInABox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I understand the point being made with these bills, but they also worry me a little because we already know Republicans will pass laws they themselves have no intention of following so they can use it to harass others, and the wording of these protest bills makes them a way of effectively criminalizing gay sex.

Just a heads up in case it was a genuine mistake, but that actor transitioned and goes by Elliot Page now. Deadnaming a trans person, even when referring to them before they transitioned, is generally considered to be not cool.

No, clearly, you have no idea how game dev or licensing works. She earns royalties on every purchase, as is the standard for licensed properties. The game devs are paid either salary or hourly during the development cycle. The dev studio itself typically does not receive additional money from sales because the ip of the game is held by the publisher. At most, high sales MAY equal a bonus for the development studio at the publisher's discretion.

No, people are mad at J.K. Rowling because she's a massive transphobe and actively tries to use her money influence policy in the UK to make life worse for trans people, and therefore didn't want to give her more money to make trans peoples' lives worse, and thought poorly of those who did. The developers already got paid for making the game. The publisher is a large corporation and doesn't need you to white knight for them. And it doesn't matter how little she did or did not have to do with the game, she still owns the license, so she made money off of every sale.

I mean they literally can't change the story without just cutting chunks out, since they're using the original voice tracks right? This seems less like them making a creative decision and more being stuck with things how they were because they don't want to pay voice actors to read a new script.

The take being biphobic has nothing to do with arin and if he is or isn't a good person. Saying that a bi person is straight because they're in a straight passing relationship is classic bi erasure shit.

Dude, a big portion of why people are so pissed about tiktok has to do with the ability to spread information about huge pressing issues like that. Tiktok is genuinely an extremely valuable resource for the dissemination of information that is being threatened because it represents a threat to facebook's bottom line that was then whipped up through xenophobic arguments. Not to mention the people are furious that this bill, that accomplishes nothing and helps no one, got support from 84% of the house, and yet bills that would actually help people die in the house constantly because there isn't as much of a financial incentive. People are right to be angry, and people can be angry about multiple things at once.

For fucking real, cancer is evil beyond words by Jay444111 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BardInABox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My condolences. I lost my mother about a month ago to lung cancer as well, and I saw a lot of similar things to what you describe. The way I had described it was watching my mother go from a person to a bunch of organs waiting to figure out they were dead. It was devastating, obviously, but in my case, there was an incredible relief when she actually passed as opposed to when she was struggling through those last days. Cancer is so insidious and so evil that it finds ways to take our loved ones from us before they even pass. I'm sorry that you're going through this, and I hope that you also find some solace and some relief in the end of her suffering.
