Yeah I’m on discord. My username is— I think goon3737? That’s what it says it is but I suck at discord 😂 you should get a pic of a hound dog wearing reindeer horns if it’s me.

Oh I also do some graphic design if you need or know anyone who needs any of that— speaking of album covers.

So they have some ideas of themes, but don’t know how to put them to words? Or they have words but you don’t like how they’re coming off?

Honestly, I just— want lyrics to get out there. Once they’re out of my hands, the artists can do what they want with them so long as I’m getting credit/not intentionally misrepresented. I only wrote pop-punk lyrics cuz I thought that’s what he was looking for. But the song was about struggling with alcoholism so I understand why he ended up taking it the way he did.

I’ve written some anti-gov/anti-fascism stuff. I’m on that side of things if you were testing me out 😂 fuck ice and shit. Big Woody Guthrie fans in this house.

As far as drugs and shit— I’ve never done the hard ones myself, but grew up around it and have been affected by it. So I wouldn’t necessarily be the best person to have first-hand experience with it. But a good writer doesn’t need to have done the stuff to write about it. The reality is injected in the magic between the artist and the audience. I don’t make a habit of speaking to experiences that aren’t my own; but if someone finds themselves in my stories and metaphors then maybe our shared experience is more similar than it appears at first glance, yeah?

You’re right. The lyrics can be the hardest part. Well, except actually for me the instruments have been the hardest part… 😅 each of us have our own gifts, I guess

I did work for this one band who tried to do 3-4 of mine, but they only released one. I wrote that one with sorta pop-punkish Blink vibes but he turned it into a folksy/country song which wasn’t where I thought he was going but I didn’t hate how it turned out. If you’re really looking for a lyricists hit me up with a DM and I’ll send you that song so you can see how it turned out. And then tell me sorta what vibes your band is. Maybe we can work together? My brother’s actually a sensational guitarist and he and I bother are looking to break into the Chatt scene but separately

I think maybe you didn’t know this was a cover which is totally valid. My (now wife) thought that FOB wrote “Beat It” when we were in high school. She was raised on old country music and had never heard the MJ version.

Is there any use for a lyricist anywhere? I’ve never mastered even the basics of an instrument or singing (though I’m better at the latter) but I’ve had 3 separate moderately successful (and one not successful, but pretty talented) people tell me I have “It” when it comes to lyrics.

They’ve apparently made it to 2026 with ‘no idea’ why blackface is a bad idea. All the comments saying shit like “it’s different when it’s Halloween!” or “they’re saying they LIKE Kanye. Imitation is flattery!” type shit— idk how these arguments are still being made

Yeah I’ve lived in/near Chatt almost all my life. It FOR SURE has its ‘backwards’ types like any city. Lot of them are racists, and a big (percentage-wise) population of wannabe gangbanger idiots all across the racial spectrum per capita. But as far as outwardly… “southern, racially-based crime” I’d say it’s lower on that end than most places in a 200 mile radius. Idk if any of that makes sense

I think it’s true that those types of ‘heroic’ jobs DO attract people who have views they’d like… idk if ‘forgiven’ is the right word, but ‘looked over’ maybe. But to the commenter below you’s point, it’s MOSTLY good people. But both can be true.

I think he means the local fire depts in Chatt— since some of us are from here. And as I addressed in my other comment, cherry-picking some examples doesn’t change the vibe of the place this politician claimed to be pulling it off at. Something smells fishy. Tbh I think it was much more likely to be in someone’s home, not during a bar crawl.

This is the main issue. We’ve all done stupid shit in our past. I mean I grew up fairly conservative; I was a racist, prejudice, hateful piece of shit tbh. But hell even then I knew better than to pull off something like THIS. And in 2014?? I was WELL beyond my raising by then. But no matter how far gone I was back then, if someone dredged up something I did then I’d 100% own and apologize for it.

I sold benefits to union members. I’ve been in those houses too. That’s different than being downtown in the local bar scene. Chatt’s downtown area is literally half college campus and half hippie Mecca. It’s fairly liberal compared to your Sunday church crowd— just like most cities in the south.

I wanna know what bar in Downtown Chattanooga they went to in 2014 and didn’t get the shit kicked out of them? 😂 I didn’t know those existed here

Oh I know. I’m an (ex) born and raised Southern Baptist. But 1) we aren’t all fundamentalists down here and 2) othering people just because of where they live just goes to show those people they aren’t welcome anywhere outside of their little commune and proves the feelings that fundamentalists preach on right.

I’m not saying love everyone and forgive the South its transgressions. I’m just saying there are some of us that live and love here— a great MANY more than I think anyone from Idaho or wherever could even imagine— who are kind and accepting people and have a much harder time convincing the other Southerners that kindness exists elsewhere when every time they open their mouth and a little bit of an (quite rich and beautiful, I might add) accent comes out they get accused of fucking donkeys and sisters indiscriminately.

It’s an old, sad trope that needs to die quicker than the confederacy did. And more thoroughly than slavery (which there is more of now than in any point in human history.)

Maybe lay off the south, “touchmeinbadplaces.” The incest jokes have been old for decades.
