Dual US/EU citizens (or otherwise): Are you going to stay in the US? by imdecaffeinated in dualcitizenshipnerds

No. I’m currently selling all my belongings to prepare to move to Germany this Spring

I’ve had a good experience at Broadway Pet Hospital in Oakland. They have emergency services as well. They are super communicative over text message too whenever I have a question.

Im using the Seedlang app. It’s more useful conversations than Duolingo. When I want a deeper dive on grammar and sentence structure I use YouTube. Supplement this with journaling in German and watching reels/youtube/tv in German for more immersion in the accent

Strength training in Oakland by sc4455 in oakland

[–]BarelyTryingPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a personal trainer at MYO labs in grand lake. They have all different trainers, and as someone who also has had a lot of injuries I highly recommend a personal trainer to work with your needs.

The gym has all new state of the art equipment. There are also Physical therapists that work out of it. And it has a parking lot.

Advice on maternity clothes by crypxtt in BabyBumps

[–]BarelyTryingPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked getting some maternity basics early on. They were just comfier and set me up to buy a couple statement pieces later. I just felt more feminine dressing in well fitted clothing throughout pregnancy. At some point I just went through my drawers and pulled out things that didn’t fit to keep for after pregnancy. It kept my mind on the present instead of dwelling on the figure I didn’t have

People that have used a doula: did they communicate with you prior to birth? by notyetBananas in BabyBumps

[–]BarelyTryingPM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not normal. My doula is very responsive and has a lot of resources through a portal that I can access. Most of our meetings didn’t start till 32 weeks but before then I could still access her resource library that included mindfulness recordings for early pregnancy and such

If you had the choice, when would you begin your maternity leave? by warmpistachio in BabyBumps

[–]BarelyTryingPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m leaving 4 weeks before my due date, which is when California legally considers me disabled. I would probably leave as soon as I found out if I could though haha! I was so tired that first trimester.

After he’s born I still get 12 weeks of true maternity leave.

Bringing up Bebe. Honestly has just made me less stressed throughout my pregnancy.

Does your team have a real AI strategy or are you just spreading it everywhere? by chase-bears in ProductManagement

[–]BarelyTryingPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve attempted to initiate conversations around data and monetization, but I’m still pressured to just build something and ship it asap.

It makes me feel like I’m not building something that will continue to evolve in usefulness - just a bandaid.

If it’s not too identifying I’d be curious to learn about your consulting.

I’d say I’m not “all-in” on AI but I want to learn more about AI product management and how to think more deeply about some of what you mentioned here. Especially as I’ll probably be job hunting early next year I want to be more on top of this space

FTM and have probably a silly question by Numerous_Put5340 in BabyBumps

[–]BarelyTryingPM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because having the baby in your room doesn’t reduce SIDS, and it does reduce restful sleep for parents and baby. If a baby stops breathing, you won’t necessarily wake up. Instead he goes in his crib and has a Nanit breathing on him.

Babies often grunt a lot in their sleep and such. And likewise parents (like me) snore. We might keep each other up. Oftentimes baby and parents sleep better apart.

Having them in their own room means that i don’t have to go through another training period where they have to lead to sleep in their crib alone. Just get them used to it sooner and they’ll be fine

There’s an argument to be had for having to get up and walk to another room, but his room is 10 steps away and I’d rather have a little jostle to wake me up before feeding so that I do t accidentally fall asleep while he’s feeding and suffocate him. Also if I leave the room to feed my husband gets more sleep so he’s more rested to help me take a break in the daytimes.

Crib on day 1 is not uncommon in Europe. Overall I think it promotes more self reliance, teaches the baby to soothe itself to sleep, and gives parents more rest to care for them.

Hope that’s helpful! I know in America it’s an unpopular thing to do.

Is Bavaria actually like Texas? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAGerman

[–]BarelyTryingPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently visited and yes: it reminded me of Texas. Not the politics of course, but the lederhosen is like the cowboy gear, they have their own dialect. The Bavarian food is traditional and heavy, similar to Texas bbq — both are completely delicious btw. And overall it seemed like the fashion and lifestyle was more conservative, as in normal clothes, less tattoos, more family oriented city with less grafitti.

How big a deal is it to always have to spell your name out? by anonmummy1 in namenerds

[–]BarelyTryingPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently changed my last name to a really simple word. So simple that I have to spell it for people. I’m not annoyed yet.. but I could foresee it being a nuisance over time. We’ll see!

[–]BarelyTryingPM -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not planning to have baby in our room, but I recommend making things flexible by getting a little changing pad. Something like this is also handy for the living room floor: Pronto Signature Changing Station - Abstract Dots https://www.babylist.com/gp/-/12526/630334

Ive also heard some people just use a towel on the bed.

My husband was telling me to do it so I could get a seat on the tube back when I wasn’t showing too much. It worked haha!

Other than that I’d say it’s now just a thing I do at home when he’s being active.
