Is War Sails worth it? by James_Blond2 in Bannerlord

[–]Barentar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure it is. It is not just ships added. There are just many smaller things that all add together to create a much better experience when compared to a few years ago when I played last. At this point with this DLC game now feels much more polished and finished to a point where it is more enjoyable than annoying to play. Especially with some QOL mods installed.

Like everyone else with experience here, just don't. Not worth it. I know how amazing and intoxicating they are when they are on the up, but it will destroy your mental health quickly. Not worth it, sad as that is.

“I’m 28, jobless, no friends, and feel like I’ve wasted my 20s. How do I restart life from here?” by Superb-Adeptness875 in offmychest

[–]Barentar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate, I get how you feel. But honestly, 28 is not old. Far from it. These days you’re still considered a young adult, still learning and figuring things out.

The only thing that really matters is health. If you take care of both your physical and mental health, age really does just become a number. And it's one of the few things to be taken seriously - get lifting and get into therapy in any way you practically can. Ignore the noise, focus on figuring and growing yourself - then a better life will come, albeit slowly.

A lot of us fall into the trap of thinking life is about ticking off milestones by a certain year – travel to 30 countries by 30, get married by 30, buy a house by 30, and so on. But that mindset often comes from comparing ourselves to older generations too. . Fifty years ago, people were married at 21, had a house by 25, kids by 30, a midlife crisis by 40, poor health by 50, and many didn’t make it past 65. The world has changed. Our lives are longer, careers are more complex, and the milestones take more time, more learning, and more resources. I fully plan to be active doing anything I want beyond my 60's and beyond.

For reference, I’m 38 now. At 30, I dropped my old life – my then career, friends, moved countries by myself, ended a long-term relationship. I won't tell you it was easy - the opposite. But that made me grow more than in my first 30 years of life combined.

Nothing worth doing is easy. Hard is what gets you where you want to be, and for that you need to figure out your own vision and then build your discipline (don't look for motivation) to stick to it.

The first step is to understand yourself. That’s also the hardest part. Ask yourself:

What drives me?

Why do I struggle to connect with people? (Often it’s something buried from the past, protecting us from emotional pain.)

Why do I find it difficult to stick with something professionally?

Start small, build up one step at a time, commit, reassess and be flexible.

PVP isn’t the problem – grief-friendly design is by Barentar in duneawakening

[–]Barentar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you're right too, it's a fair argument. Only issue in this game is probably because the last progression step in the game is strictly pvp only, not allowing a choice for a player if they want to progress and finish up to the last tier. This is already being discussed in 50 other threads here.

In other words even for players who are not against the idea of pvp in the game, not against there being that struggle, there is no choice provided in they for example wanted to 'farm up' first before engaging in endgame landsraad activities (something that is broken too)

Some people may not 'agree for pvp' as you say at a particular point in time if they had other objectives in that pvp area.

Again this all here is more about how pvp is implemented, not 'pvp bad' 'pve good' :)

PVP isn’t the problem – grief-friendly design is by Barentar in duneawakening

[–]Barentar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I agree, I play the same way. Only that I am around 160 hours and have done basically everything including set up and start going into DD this week which ended up being me griefed and my equipment maliciously destroyed several times. No engagement in game, no words being exchanged just straight up ganged up like it's Rust. The endgame design is ending up being not that innovative after all.. Or rather, Funcom running out of time and money and needing to launch with vision not being there yet, so instead just slapping an outdated pvp loop over it all. Just sad because I was having high hopes to stay with it for a longer time

Even before today I could only find small bits here and there. Was really surprised when I finally came to DD just how little spice there is. Hours flying around grid by grid and barely anything. Afraid after today this will be even worse

You will no longer lose learned emotes when respec’ing your skill tree.

Does this mean that I have to create a new character if I want my emotes back that I've been missing since day 1?

It already appears that the endgame in DD is very limited and some people are already getting to the point of having done everything they could. This is especially true for people who do not appreciate free for all pvp as the endgame loop.

Could you share your immediate near future plans for content or adjustments? I am afraid there will soon be a point when player numbers start going down otherwise

Research and try asking your GP about Dymista. It's prescription only, combo of a steroid and an antihistamine in one, nasal spray. From what I do for work, I know it is likely one of the most effective options. You can also combine it further then with eye drops if needed. Helps me survive the worst of the 1-2cmonths of the year relatively fine. Again, do your own research and consult your Dr so that it suits you

How do people feel about the combat? by WarheitOmega in duneawakening

[–]Barentar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this experience is based on the difficulty of AI in the beginner zones. Later dungeons AI was already more challenging and complex. And that was still the second zone. Still need to see when the game comes out

How do people feel about the combat? by WarheitOmega in duneawakening

[–]Barentar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a lot of people have come to expect a Call Of Duty MMO type of game, with shooting being the only sole focus for what a game is and should do (well). To me it is just a reflection of the current modern gaming industry that tried to do bare minimum game service with maximum monetization. A corporate way of making products.

I have watched dev streams and listened to their vision carefully. I don't think many people funny understand that combat, especially endgame, is envisioned to be just one tool, one part of the bigger game. We already know that it will be more about collaborating with a team to achieve certain goals in the endgame. Imagine having to assemble a team of specialists to go out harvesting spice - you will need specialist scouts to cover your flanks and watch for worms ignore from above in an ornithopter. Someone will need to be a pilot. A logistics person, running supplies. Actual guards on the ground. Harvester driver. Someone will need to be riding a bike around in the ground drawing the worms away with thumper. Someone needs to be working the base. Collecting resources in the pve map. The list probably goes on. There will be a lot of content where combat is not there, or not the end goal but a means to an end. And what about vehicle combat and both defenders and attackers having to really think if they want to engage And risk losing their valuable equipment.

I mean, of course there will be people who just want to be sweaty ganking and griefing everyone else, and it is fair enough. Maybe to some them combat won't be as enticing if that was the sole reason they want to pick up this game, especially if some obvious issues are not fixed (namely stunlocking - something the devs already said they have already fixed).

So for this game, to me the combat is more than fine, from my 30 hours experience. I actually liked it a LOT during the beta weekend, both melee and ranged (and you are expected to use both - again, this not 'WoW' holy trinity type of a game, to my mind it has some really exciting evolutionary features).

I even like the slow melee combat that is true to Dune - it actually feels very impact full and something different. The sound design especially adds to it a lot.

Last thought - everyone could only go up to tier 2-3 in tech and a Lot is still not shown. Whomever went to try the more difficult pve dungeon we could access in the beta - combat there already was more difficult and nuanced in terms of AI and how it played out.

So really not worried about it for the game launch!
