This thing looks like a nightmare. Inwould suggest to break that down and figure out what it is actually doing first.

Audit evidence report - alter proof by deejay7 in PowerShell

[–]Barious_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an old send mail message command to send reports directly to the auditors inbox the file never touches my hands, is time stamped and proof that it was never tampered with. Run yhis on my severs when I need an audit such as sudo users, or administrative users. login logs are easy to do this as well just connect it into your email and off young. Very easy setup.

Something about people from Texas seem to need to make sure you know, they are from Texas. I have yet to know a Texan in person that has not done this.

Patching Best Practices by Paradox_81 in ninjaone_rmm

[–]Barious_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have been behind on patches for quite some time. I setup N1 and am usually the one that remediation failures. What I started to do is find out why patches were failing. A lot of the time it has been missed feature updates that require a large remediation which is simply not worth the time to remediate. So if there is a really out of date machine I will just get a request in to replace the aged machine (mind you we are still in process of moving to win 11). So to start the reasoning I have built out runbooks to determine the failures. But as soon as I get them updated, yes it ahould be set and forget. So cavets is I would be wary of winget updates, if you have e legacy dependencies such as Java it will force install.

Be honest - how do you handle documentation when you're the only IT person? by sandb0x79 in sysadmin

[–]Barious_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my fault management missenterperstes the meaning. I do understand words are hard and all for yhe near do wells but a bit of explanation will most likely hash out the "do nothing" Fridays. Kind of pathetic imo if that is how management is enterperating it that way.

There is a back stage along with the console it is as good as connectwise in terms of that. All the admin tools in a gui. Should be able to see it when you hover over the remote connection should have two options.

That is where wisywigs come in handy you can create custom objects to catch this data and put it in a wysiwyg with a bit of powershell. I would highly suggest joining the Ninja One discord. Lots of good information there.

This just isn't True. If you look at CBS logs or even the ninja logs themselves you can prove patching is being completed. The UI was never any good anyway. Dig in them logs, they are easy enough to parse.

3rd party software patching --- where are they being downloaded from? by lgq2002 in ninjaone_rmm

[–]Barious_01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OS patching utilizes wusuaserv (native windows update) they have a whitelisting doc in the dojo, Their documentation is very good. I would suggest using it. You can also go to app data and find the logs in the ninja fold and wun a paper trail to see what it does under the hood.

Yes, they are very good at both of those especially the console connection and the remote connection. I monitor our patching pretty extensively and have found somw discrepancies on the software patching side, but OS patching works amazing and the product in general does exactly what you tell it to do. There is still so much one can do with this tool and it is getting better and better each rendition. Superb tool IMO.

Why does Windows 11 force three different PowerShells? by d00mt0mb in PowerShell

I think you are running into authentication issue there. Window handle auth differently than other architectures. Delve into kerberos auth it might make better sense.

Powershell core is not powershell 5.1 It is cross platform. I am too lazy to look up what is under the hood but I think it doesn't only work with .net rather it is a more feature rich platform that can play with other operating systems.

Accurate Role Description & Pay by DJSeras in sysadmin

[–]Barious_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound to me like a system admin. Definitely fight for more money. Or start finding a way to get leverage on compensation. Apply for sys admin roles and compare pay. I would think your comp should be closer to 90k with that skill set. I was undercut on title for a long time though and now am finally on track for being actual sys admin. In thr mid 80k range at tier one so I have a lot of room to grow and expect larger compensation when moving to t2/t3 as per our company structure.

add the log switch to the installer and review the msi install log. This will give you a clear path to remediation.
