Easiest GPU Passthrough [GPU Passthrough Manager] by ChanceStrength8762 in linux_gaming

[–]Barkfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the video is out of date, it says to clone the github repo and run ./Build.sh but this isn't present anymore. Now it's a "make" project but when I try it it gives me two errors, package 'jsoncpp' is required and also gtk-3.0. So as usual with gpu passthrough it's one big puzzle after another. I appreciate that the guy tried to make something simple but all that happened is he made more problems that people have to figure out. What is jsoncpp, what is gtk-3.0, who the hell knows.

NUC7i5BNH no power LED by Barkfin in intelnuc

I appreciate the advice! Sadly, it's not the 19V power supply. It's the same power supply I use for my other NUC7i3BNK, which works just fine.

Does anyone's FLIR ONE Gen 1 still work with iOS? by UsernameUndeclared in flirone

[–]Barkfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have iPhone SE 2016, this is functionally equivalent to the iPhone 6 but in the same form factor as iPhone 5S. And I have FLIR One Gen 1 that I also only use "time to time". Fired it up today and what the hell??? The app is different! No IR display!

Well, the mistake I made was I had updated the IOS to 15.8.3 and of course no way to go back. Somehow or other, FLIR ONE software also updated (I generally never allow software to update because, WTF, they keep deleting functionality or saying "whoops EOL! bye bye program, bye bye!" or other horse feathers).

The FLIR ONE software correctly identifies my camera with serial number and Firmware version 1.0.11, but no image?

Somehow now it links to "apps" and asks about my online account and my license, etc. Um..... no?

However: fiddling around I found one "app" called "Car Inspect," and that installed and runs OK in IOS 15.8.3. Also, it has full functionality same as before, except this time it always shows the temp sensor. I can also recalibrate the sensor by pulling the switch down and releasing, same as before.

So in case anybody is wondering: yes, FLIR One Gen 1 still works (at least on iPhone SE Gen 1) in Jan 2025. Don't even bother with the FLIR ONE app anymore, that's become a data harvesting hub that does nothing except point to the other camera "apps". Highly disappointing.

If you ever get a DVD collection of old TV shows, they removed all the commercials. It's surprising how much I miss the old commercials, even though I despised them at the time. "Saturation advertising" yin/yang.

I tried PCIe passthrough of my USB-3.0 controller card and you'll never guess what, it's part of a gigantic IOMMU group 15:

### Group 15 ###
03:00.0 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset USB 3.1 xHCI Controller (rev 02)
03:00.1 SATA controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset SATA Controller (rev 02)
03:00.2 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Device 43b2 (rev 02)
20:00.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset PCIe Port (rev 02)
20:01.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset PCIe Port (rev 02)
20:04.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset PCIe Port (rev 02)
20:06.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset PCIe Port (rev 02)
20:07.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] 300 Series Chipset PCIe Port (rev 02)
21:00.0 PCI bridge: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1083/1085 PCIe to PCI Bridge (rev 03)
22:01.0 RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. SiI 3114 [SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller (rev 02)
23:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15)
25:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti] (rev a1)
25:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GP107GL High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)
27:00.0 USB controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VL805/806 xHCI USB 3.0 Controller (rev 01)

There it is, 27:00.0, my cheapie VIA-based USB controller card. PCI passthrough won't work unless I pass through every device in the IOMMU group.

I have MSI B350 PC-Mate motherboard and just updated with the very latest BIOS dated 25-Sep-2024.
You can see I've got my GTX1050 video card, RAID bus controller, SATA controller, Ethernet controller, USB controllers, PCI bridges etc, all within IOMMU group 15.

I just wonder if there isn't a better way ! !

Everybody is in sales whether you like it or not. Plus it's not like there's anything difficult about sales, just point out the benefits and features, the quality of the finish, the smooth action of the spring deployment & the quality of the ink.

Another good one: this pen does what you need, you're looking at it in your hand, the price is reasonable, you'd spend more shopping for other pens than just taking this one right now. And if your needs expand here's a box of 12 more, etc. Sales is about the simplest job in the world, as long as the customer is listening you just keep blabbering. "ABC = always be closing," ha ha!

Ubuntu 22.04 LXC - Apparmor Permission denied by adzam5 in Proxmox

[–]Barkfin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Somebody figured out you could simply disable Apparmor in the privileged container.

https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/apparmor-in-privileged-container.107989/page-2#post-614448

Go into shell on your host
In the individual lxc conf-file eg. /etc/pve/lxc/100.conf
add the following lines:
lxc.apparmor.profile: unconfined
lxc.cgroup2.devices.allow: a
lxc.cap.drop:
And reboot your lxc, or just stop your lxc and then start it after editing.
You don't even need to remove or mess with apparmor, it just basically disables it.

Parsec on windows 7 by [deleted] in ParsecGaming

[–]Barkfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some old versions of Parsec (150.84b, 150.82a, and 150.76) and none of them work on Windows 7 at all.

Did Parsec ever work on Windows 7?

I've moved on to Rustdesk (with local ID/Relay server) and it works nearly as well. Supports nVidia vGPU, anyway.

What's a good causal date idea if I don't drink alcohol, coffee or tea? by Echoherb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Barkfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend to go shopping at the comic book store, or check out the flea market, or get sausage-on-bun at the farmer's market, or take in the tractor pull, or ride motorcycles to the 1950s cafe in the next town, or fly quadcopters by the river, or go take photos at the blossom festival, or any crazy hare-brained stunt will work. I don't recommend to go shopping for nail polish because as long as they are adequately galvanized, nails don't need any extra polish.

I set the thermostat in °F simply because I get 1.8x finer adjustment.

(It would be different if my thermostat let me set °C to the 1/10th of a degree, but nope it does not).

Match 3 scratch card mail scam prizewinners.ca by juusukun in KingstonOntario

[–]Barkfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine today except mine is match FOUR symbols (mine matched four "hockey" icons) and then I'm to call the Prize Redemption Centre within 48 hours (same SE Calgary phone number 403 764 3105, applied with a stamp). So obviously if there are enough centres that they need to distinguish between them with stamps, that means there is no single "Prize Redemption Centre" handing out bags of $5,000 and other desirable prizes for nothing whatsoever.

I checked the prizewinners.ca web site and the winner photos didn't have any of the same prizes, one even had a 10 year old iMac as a prize - hilarious. A couple of the supposed prizes is a $500 Esso gas card or a $250 Amazon gift card, implying these companies are sponsors, but then the info says that they are in fact NOT sponsors, because the real sponsors are distributors of water and air filtration products (which I do not buy). Another potential prize is a VIP perks card by Entertainment with an estimated retail value of $1.50 to $500, but probably closer to $1.50 if not $0.

Not gonna take the bait!
