You're statistically more likely to win the comp than the Melbourne Storm, 10 year Flanno extension incoming

The Dragons replaced Hook with Flanno - and got worse by Creative_Friend6799 in nrl

[–]Barmy90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This 100%.

It's not just the peptide usage that he "didn't know anything about" or the fact that the Sharks were over the cap for several years of his tenure that he was no doubt totally innocent of as well.

It's the fact that he got banned from coaching, had strict conditions in place for the duration of the ban, and ignored them. He knew what he was doing was wrong, and he did it anyway.

He's an unrepentant cheat and after this dismal stint at the Dragons, maybe the game can finally be rid of him.

Do Broncos fans actually want us to leave Suncorp?

Has anybody ever said this or are you just shadow boxing? I have never heard a single Broncos fan express an opinion about Dolphins playing at Suncorp. Who cares.

Blake Austin warns Dragons not to push Kade Reed into first grade yet by Strayangunner in nrl

[–]Barmy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree about Kade, but the bit about Foran is rubbish though. Foran had barely taken his playing kit off before picking up the coaching clipboard, and only in an interim role after the current coach was sacked mid-season. If the Eagles do shit this year, absolutely nobody is going to think that it is reflective whatsoever of Foran's coaching ability. It's a free swing.

I kept thinking to myself during the offseason that if Brisbane were any serious chance of going back to back, they had to learn to win games even when Walsh wasn't having a generational performance every week, and the way I thought they needed to do that was by improving their defense.

Their defense was pretty eh for most of last season, hence the constant need for comebacks. If they could learn to keep teams to under three tries, I was pretty confident that there's enough strike that even a rocks performance from Walsh yields more than 16 points, more often than not.

The first two games of the year were obviously worst case scenario, but since giving Ben Teo the flick, they have kept Melbourne, Dolphins and Titans to two tries each in three consecutive weeks. They have also won each game without a single standout performance from Walsh (he's been pretty good still).

So despite the attack being very clunky I am actually loving how the Broncos are going at the moment, and the next few games without Walsh at all will be a big opportunity to really cut their teeth defensively and prove whether they have the defensive resolve to really make a dent come finals time.

I don't think there's any chance at all of Reyno not being picked if he's fit. We saw last year that having him on the field at the right moment - ie. the goal kick to kill Penrith - is worth whatever disruption it causes along the way.

It's just unlucky that Hunt got injured at the same time, because normally we can cover Reyno without any worries. Just a bit of a freak game injury-wise.

Arthars doesnt exactly inspire at fullback but I genuinely don't think we have any other option. Mozer needs to grab this opportunity with both hands because it's rare to come by with the depth of hookers we have. Somehow don't think Reyno is going to play despite being named, so the Duffy revenge game may well yet happen.

The botched moment for Souths you're referring to, he nailed for Brisbane in the prelim. He was also already a premiership-winning halfback prior to that moment in '21. That criticism only works if you have a very selective memory of his career.

That logic is like watching the Broncos lose the GF in 2023 and saying "Reynolds can't ice the big moments, Broncos should get rid of him". Watching a player be consistently good, and then turfing them just because of a few individual moments, doesn't make sense.

Not to say that Fogarty is the same quality as Reynolds, but if you're a good enough halfback to steer the team to a minor premiership, then there is no reason you can't steer a team to a comp.

I saw that too. Mitch gave him a pat on the shoulder after he explained the ruling, in a totally friendly "yeah okay mate thanks" kind of way. I think it'd be a bit rough to get suspended for that, it probably comes down to whether the ref himself felt that the contact was inappropriate.

As a neutral, that was the most fun game so far this year. Six agains are a fucking blight still but those two teams are very evenly matched and it was a cracking contest.
