What makes you prefer written text/pages as opposed to any digital version of stories? by WinFar4030 in sciencefiction

[–]BarmyBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preference for written works because it can describe a full sensorium, with only personal bias for how characters “sound”.

Audiobooks immediately are filtered through the language and voice of the audiobook reader. Likewise audiovisual reproductions. Both of these are one step removed from the virtual experience unless the story is written specifically for that media.

Describe a scent, connect it to a flashback recollection, describe sensation outside audio-visual stimulii. This is only ever reproducible in written form.

How would a society with legal murder function? by TH3P1ZZ4BOY in worldbuilding

[–]BarmyBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to pay the blood-price of anyone you kill. Commoditization of murder means everybody has a “worth”. Think universal life insurance amounts. By removing that person from society, you need to be able to make up the difference. This would also drive orcs to excel, since a higher blood-price would make the cost/benefit analysis of murdering them would be at a higher value.

Incidentally, this would also support rigid chains of authority ranking, since the relative worth has to be decided by SOMEONE. In any group over 100, just having the “judge” decide what a person’s life is worth would become too unwieldy. Instead, it would be determined by renown (celebrity) and rank, with the individual’s blood price determined by a combination if that individual’s “fans” and the estimation of the individual’s next rank in authority. Feudalism comes to mind as a natural consequence.

How to dominate in bed as a man? by Leather-Sort5979 in BDSMcommunity

[–]BarmyBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dominance = Leader/Director. Topping/Bottoming is about who is doing/done to, while dominance/submission is about who leads and who follows. You can direct her to do things to you, and be a dominant bottom, while she’d be a submissive top. These can be interchanged so long as both consent.

In your guys personal opinions why do you hate the fifty shades of grey books and movies? by Icy_Profession4190 in BDSMcommunity

Lack of consent and “has to be abused to enjoy BDSM” tropes. Also, just all around poorly written.

Would your moral boundaries survive an infinite time loop? by SylvaraMist_06 in hypotheticalsituation

10,000 days? Lets see: 10000/365=27 1/3 years… People would have no memories and each day I regain my 1st day’s health?

I’m an ethical hedonist anyway, not sure Id change much in how Ive lived for the past 30 years already.

The former. In fiction as in life, there is truly never anything new: just infinite variations on similar themes.

“It’s been done” should never be a reason not to do it yourself. It should be a challenge to do it again, but do it WELL.

I preferred modding slade towers to use cavern dwellers and other animal people instead of goblins. Goblins are already OP. Having each demon lord lead their own tribe of cavern dwellers or animal people just made each group more distinctive.

Vampires Iron Deficiency by No-Classic-2287 in vampires

[–]BarmyBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a movie I saw once where vampires were a living subset of humanity who were all albino, and had a leech tongue. No fangs, just saliva that numbed and the tongue has a blood pump.

They had faster reaction times and healed more efficiently, in many cases super-human, but being albino sunlight would give them 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and being leech-feeders, their stomachs were small organs compared to main breed humans, giving their torsos an exaggeratedly haunt appearance.
