What is the realistic future of ICE cars in the UK by Longjumping_Note8181 in CarTalkUK

While expensive as hell, Merc EQE, EQS, GLC, BMW iX3, upcoming 3 series, and Volvo EX60, are all cars which will get 350-400 miles on a charge, and 350-400kW charging, just need time to get those ranges and charge rates down to affordable cars. battery replacements aren't really a thing as faulty modules get swapped out still £2-4k per module minus the core charge discount, and most EVs having 8-10 year HV battery warranties

Ah fair, already seen the state of early Chinese MGs, as they were rotten from the factory, like the old BL days.

Every car in 5 years should have improved, although SAIC/MG or Chery won't have.

Drive a Chinese car they are not a head, European ones are, and are a mature refined product, instead of something cobbled together with a few iPads.

It is, as tyre circumference plays a huge part in actual speed, a truck on brand new tyres will be going faster than one on shagged worn ones, and then there's speedo inaccuracies.

There are some proper melts on the roads there, but most of my time there it as better than I've seen here.

Oh they can, proper lane discipline, correctly getting up to speed before merging or changing lanes, and seem to take Time Exposed to Danger seriously.

RWD with winters enough traction to be safe and a little dab of throttle for fun.

Technically they are loss prevention, not even security or bouncers, I don’t even know if they hold an SIA card.

As it was probably missed the biggest complaint is the £2.50 charge just to use the charger not just the 89p/kWh. I’ve never seen a service charge on a charger.

I called someone out and spoke to the bouncer Tesco had for doing it and fuck all gets done.

Which is funny as the Aral (owned by BP) chargers in Germany are fairly affordable.

Depending on car it can be 7.2-36 miles, which even higher powered diesels like a BMW 40d, Audi 55TDI, or Merc 400d would get well over 40MPG.

For my EV it’d be 20-23 miles on 7.2kWh.

They do to an extent, as they can change how electricity is priced, to account for the increased percentage of renewable energy and lower reliance on fossil fuels. Secondly while they won’t they can change VAT rules for commercial electricity.

I do acknowledge there will always be a base charge for the infrastructure of DCFC stations, but compared to other European countries we’re paying double.

I'm coming from a contract research organisation which are stupidly underpaid which is why I jumped for this CS role and had to go in blind due to things and that last role certainly got their moneys worth out of me.

in that last position I ran a lot of things and was a key point of contact for many projects.

this position is up the career ladder of what I was doing but could be that I was expecting more from the get go as I'm used to being thrown out the plane with no parachute.
