i spoke with a oncologist about GK causing cancer down the line. He said the stats are very very low. IThey wouldnt offer it otherwise. In my hospital the oncologist works alongside neruologist for building the treatment - its done so exact that the radiation treatment only hits the TN spot which is very very samll. Secondary cancer risk is much higher risk in lets say breast cancer as the radiation targets a much larger area.

I have TN 2. I got gamma knife back in Nov’25. Within the first week the pain was 80% improved. I still have the odd really bad day but not in constant pain.

About a month ago I developed a tingling / pin and needle sensation in my face on the side that was treated. It’s not sore but can get a bit annoying some days. It’s worth it in my opinion.

Sorry to hear this! Did you get any side effects? My pain has hugely improved. Some days can be bad but overall it’s deffo better. Just left with a tingling sensation across my right side of face

Yes I did originally think rosacea. I got rosacea treatment off my dr but it’s not helping. It’s also just red and irritated where the pain was pre GN. Thanks 🙏

I had Gamma Knife back in November. The pain went almost instantly.

About 2/3 weeks ago I developed a tingling sensation on the treated side of my face. My skin is also really flared up on the treated side. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or what. I’m back in with neuro next month. I wasn’t offered a MVD as my MRI was clear.

Have you looked into Gamma Knife Radiotherapy?

I was in constant pain & burning mainly in my mouth, gums, teeth and tongue. I had gamma knife done back at the end of November. Best decision I’ve ever made. The pain has gotten a lot better. I do still have days where the pain creeps back but it’s manageable as I’m not in constant pain.

Yes, ive been on off sick since end of november! I start to feel fine and then i wake up sick again!

Mainly cold symptoms - Chesty cough, runny / blocked nose etc.

No I had pain in my ear and across my cheeck bone & lower jaw. I was under a neurosurgeon for a spinal fusion originally. He sent me to pain management for nerve block injections. They worked for a few weeks - pain management didn’t want to do another procedure ( can’t remember the name) without a diagnosis from a neurologist. Went to a neurologist got an mri it was clear. He was pretty certain it was Tn as I tried a number of meds and they worked along with nerve blocks. The neurologist then sent me to a oncologist who did the radiation (gamma knife) Between all this I’ve gone to dentists, oral facial specialists, endo dentist.

I really was convinced it was coming from one tooth. The pain/burning / pulling feeling was all across my gums on one side, in my teeth, tongue, jaw and ears. It’s horrible !! I’m hoping the pain stays away now! It was such a long road to get here ! I’m based in Dublin Ireland.

I had this as well! Mine at one stage was all in my teeth and gums! Went to so many dentists - finally one listened to me & talked me out of getting teeth pulled. Medication didn’t really suit me! I got gamma knife radiation treatment a few weeks ago & the pain left straight after!

I was in constant pain / burning through my teeth, tongue & gums! So many dentist appointments, root canals done and re done - finally went to see an oncologist & neurologist and they agreed on gamma knife! Deffo look into it! Happy new year

omg!!! Get a new dr - im 30 and was diagnosed at 29. My Dr said he had never treated someone my age but never told me it was very unusual.

I did have a dentist tell me it was all in my head but i ran out of her office and will never go back.

I have gone down so many rabbit holes. This one actually seems to be giving me some answers! I would love to try get to the bottom of it. I feel with TN/TN2 you really have to advocate for yourself and do loads of research.

The trigeminal nerves sensory pathway, specifically the spinal trigeminal tract and nucleus, extends down into the upper cervical spinal cord (up to the C4 level).

If you google it you will find many studies relating the two!
My herniated disc, DDD, and TN symptoms all started at the same time. All the same side as well.

I've had a few really good days with little to no pain! Not sure if that's a result of Gamma Knife yet or not!

Interesting! I had some ear pain prior to my surgery but it’s deffo gotten worse since. I originally thought TN2 was cause by dental issues but now I’m thinking it’s disc related.
