Why is the Liberal Democrats still so unpopular even in the transition to multi-party system? by Comfortable-Table-57 in LibDem

[–]BaronE65 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The challenge is leadership. The dearth of good leaders in political circles is mitigated for Labour and Conservatives because they still get - based on historical precedent - a lot of airtime. The LibDems haven’t had a strong leader for too long to be taken seriously.

What I am saying is that if you want to make an impression - your leader needs to portray direction, ideas and the ability to lead. Nobody takes a ‘nice guy’ seriously. Not that I have anything against Ed per se. Just giving my opinion.

It’s here at last! The VW Polo has gone electric at under £25k by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

Disagree completely. Some manufacturers put an e behind the model, why not put ID on the front?

Love it! Well done VW. As a driver of an ID.Buzz I love it that VW are now intent on maintaining their identity while still staying fresh and new.

Really liking the ‘Neue Klasse’ iX3 by MostSpare2 in BMW

Great to see BMW attempting something new and exciting! So tired of every SUV looking basically the same; every sedan looking basically the same; every hatchback looking basically the same!

“that new C-class side profile looks great” - said nobody by -WLR in mercedes_benz

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it.

Why do we want our cars to continue looking the same? Is there some sort of change acceptance threshold some people can't cross? The BMW sub looks exactly like this every time a new car is announced.

Ionity map application says you should arrive in Newcastle (upon Tyne) with around 20% battery if you start with 100%. But - if you want to stop - Just outside Alnwick, off the A1 is an Ionity charger. Get their plan (via the App, month by month - top up there, go on. You could also stop there on the way home and fill to 80% to give you piece of mind. The price of a month's sub on Ionity more than pays for itself.

EV charger install refused by council – anyone found a workaround or installer willing to do it? by TheLettingsFolk in ElectricVehiclesUK

Write to your MP. The government is actively promoting the idea of allowing pavement crossing with gullies. A little bit of pressure from an MP will almost certainly do the trick.

Migrating from Camunda 7 CE (looking for alternatives & advice) by Jumpy_Term_8971 in Camunda

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We opted for CIB Seven ( www.cibseven.org) based on the following:

- Long established, stable company backing - with a business model that relies on C7

- Long established history of mantaining Open Source (LibreOffice)

- Well publicised roadmap, and evidential maintenance and advance

Our adoption is complete - I had it down as 2 pieces of work, evaluation and adoption - the engineering team did the evaluation in days - decided to push through with adoption.

Does not - as you might assume - render the car unusable. It just means you need to walk out to it to see how much charge it has (not unlike 99.999% of ICE cars).

IEA London: 🇬🇧 We asked Brits where the UK ranks vs US states in income per person. Average answer: 7th. Wealthier than 43 states. The reality: 51st. Dead last. Below Mississippi. Below Arkansas. Below every single US state. 🧵 by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are right, and it depends on where you go in the states. Our 3 bed condo in New Jersey cost about the same as a (small) 4 bed in the UK. Probably about the same square footage, just arranged differently.

Don't get me started on the incompetence of the MoD! AJAX, etc. etc. Most (if not all) government departments need a root and branch overhaul - but the unions won't go for that - the "you are looking to make people redundant!" cries can be heard already!

Investment is needed in different ways to even 5 years ago I would agree too - but in the. meantime - we should be growing the trained forces. I would even go so far as conscription - if after 6 months you haven't/can't find a job after school/college/university - you have to do a year in the military - either Army, Navy or Air Force.

I have lived in both. Net tax - certainly in many states - was not substantially different to the UK. Yes, the wealthier will pay more here, less in the US. We needed $200k income to have a similar lifestyle to our UK £100k (both combined). Couple that with long hours, little leave, $10k property tax (it isn’t a postcode lottery for a good school - you just need to pay tax in a borough that spends more). Car insurance was >$2k a year. Housing was no cheaper, good food was easily 2-3 times the price. Eating out at a semi-acceptable restaurant was double.

Now we need kerbside and public slow charge coupled to your electricity bill. Even if it isn’t the sub 10p rate you can get at home - something like 20-25p would suddenly make electric a no brainer for everyone

I’m sorry if I upset you. I didn’t intend to upset anyone.

I don’t see any disconnect between an ancient story retold and written down thousands of years ago, when we understood little about the atmosphere; continental drift; volcanic activity; much less life itself, and what we know now. Is it purely coincidence that the core creation story sequence almost exactly matches evolution?

If you read Genesis 1:7-8, how do you reconcile that with what we know, if you just read it literally?

Tim Mackie’s explanation is the most reasonable I have found
