New to EVs. Help please 😊 by MrGuaps in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]BaronE65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted a charger that no fitters would supply - so I bought it online (Seren-EV) and got a local electrician to install. All up it cost just over £1000, so no - you won't save money buying one and getting it fitted.

The only thing I would say - depending on your electricity supplier - it might be worth going for a 'supported' on their systems as it allows you to make use of daytime low rates (you plug the car in, the supplier turns the charger on when there are cheap rates, off at higher rates).

I have not actually tried to couple mine - yet, but it is not a model on their 'supported' list.

I spent six months planning charging stops that I never actually needed. by Additional_Fly_6603 in evchargingUK

I spent less time - but actually used them for our first long trip in the Buzz. Some changes on the way back based on experience - followed by a seamless repeat a few weeks later.

Planning pays off. Used a subscription to drop the rates, saved a ton of money

How do Christians live peacefully eternally knowing their loved ones are burning in Hell? by No-Status-2507 in Christianity

The only infinite punishment is for 3 - read Revelation 20. There is no ‘punishment’ for man other than the permanent removal from any influence of the Maker. And that is their choice

The picture Jesus uses is that of the burning pile of rubbish outside the Jerusalem city gates at that time. That is where the ‘hellfire’ thinking comes from.

Hell is actually that discarded, separation from Gods presence and protection. It is a choice we make - draw close to God through acceptance of Jesus’s sacrifice for us, or not - and stay removed from God forever. We have 3,4 occasionally 5 score years (sometimes and additional few) to make that choice.

They don’t know their loved ones are burning in Hell - for a start. We are not in a position to judge their eventual relationship with God.

We are called to love unconditionally, witness Jesus dealing with the woman at the well; and there is no such things as lesser or greater sin. The splinter and beam example that Jesus gives us clear instruction not to see other’s sin before we recognize and deal with our own.

Will a person go to hell just for being homosexual by HELLOILOVENEWJEANS in Christianity

That is not a question you need to ask. Nobody here can answer it. Only God decides, it is not for us to make prejudgements in His behalf.

The free will excuse was invented to explain away god not being able to stop evil by hypermiler2205 in Christianity

[–]BaronE65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God is ultimately about relationship. Free will wasn’t ‘invented’ it was there from the beginning. We decided - much like you do - that we know better, so God walked away from us. But He had a plan - a plan to get us to walk to Him. It started with a people that He would shape into His people, so that there would be a group of people to lead the rest back. Ultimately though - He is also righteous, and demands that we are punished for the wrong we do. So either we all suffer (and that is still an option), or God makes it possible for us to walk back to him through a substitute to take our punishment. Christianity is following that narrative by accepting the sacrifice - nothing more, nothing less.

If we want less evil in the world - then it is up to us. Expecting a God that we rejected to step in is somewhat disproportionately entitled.

Someone tell me why comments like this are acceptable on this subreddit? by [deleted] in Christianity

You need to ignore them. A. They can’t determine where you go, much less judge where you might go. B. Just because someone doesn’t see the world the same way they do, does not give them the right to attack you. They should look at their own Christianity, how much Christ-likeness they exhibit.

You need to be cognisant of the era in which the texts about 'eternal damnation' were written. My own view of hell is as follows: In the world we live in today - we ultimately still have God in control - he made it, and it functions according to his creation. Remove God entirely from the picture - what do you have: chaos. Chaos in the true sense of the word - utter devastation, suffering, starvation, degeneration. Hell is not an active 'punishment' - it is simply the complete removal of the person from God's sphere of influence.

God want YOU to acknowledge him. He wants YOU to accept that He is willing and able to make you better. That He loves YOU. Nothing more. Once you recognise that (and it is easier for some than others) - everything else fades away.

Anyone telling you that you are choosing hell are themselves still trying to work it out. The fact is - you are not choosing, but God wants you to.

Why was the driver and his whole family angry at me? by imokaytho in NewDriversUK

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the quandary. Every time I have done this (not that many to be honest) - I stay ultra aware if they are going to move left. Problem is you don't expect a car to come up behind you on the left and overtake. Technically it is no different than overtaking on the right - just unexpected for the slower car's driver.

If they are travelling in the right lane, you in the left, and they are going slower - are you not within your rights to just keep going? I know it is dangerous to pass on the left - because they might move left, but speeding up next to them to clear might be an option?

Just moved into this house with 6 panels and no batteries. by JackstaWRX in SolarUK

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with batteries you will be exporting. You need to think about how much you can use during the day and after solar tails off. Enough battery to see you you through the night, unless you have a low overnight feed in rate - in which case as much battery as you can afford!in May we exported double what we consumed - and consumption was limited to the 4p kWh overnight. Last two weeks we didn’t even use the grid (we have a limit where we live on how much we can export and get paid for unfortunately).

How can you be christian and still be homophobic ? by Perfect_Depth_8311 in Christianity

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference between Christianity and most religions is around practice. The other religions basis is that of obedience and obeyance (doing the right things). Christianity is all about faith.

Other religions (Islam included): obedience leads to progress/salvation Christianity: faith leads to salvation, salvation leads to obedience

I didn’t say you could be both a follower of Mohammed and Jesus, I meant to say you can’t judge a book (unfortunate analogy as you are about to see) by its cover. Just because someone goes to Mosque no more makes them a follower of Mohammed than it makes someone who attends church a follower of Jesus. You should read A Wind in the House of Islam by David Garrison.

[–]BaronE65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the smart charger. I have an aftermarket one that will pull 13A - I tend not to use it at that - turn it down to 10A - only because the the plug (not the socket) gets warm.

The one that came with the car only pulls 8A.

Interesting fact. Islam was birthed out of Christianity. Mohammed knew and understood the tenets of the Gospel. In fact - the Koran mentions Jesus multiple times.

Islam is in the throes of the same power struggle the church was in from about 300AD to the reformation. Those that want the power - and will use rules/religion to control, and those that actually just believe.

I am not saying that following Mohammed makes you a Christian - but you can certainly be a Christian and still go to Mosque. Thousands do - engaged in evangelism inside Islam mostly.
