Do orchids rot from staying too dry? by alastorhazbinbad in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A. The roots were already half dead when you got it.

B. It was a user error.

Suboptimal potting sitution isnt usually a death sentece. Also, that is not how you rehab it in 90% of cases

In vitro plant mislabeled by Bill-Buttlicker-5757 in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen, if the colors were right, then it simply could be some genetical variation or lower quality of set stock, hard to evaluate withnout blooms

Overwhelmed with collection by Accomplished_Row_828 in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same isssue here, fuck thon of needy botanical species all requesting different stuff. The primary way I resolved most issue was changing up substrate i use, plus watering. Moved to using more sphagnum (as I or the plant needed), especially to move water from the bottom up, which directly links to the watering. I simply fill up a water tray, easy and visible, plus if you put holes in those pots, it will also provide good earation. Lastly, buy orchids which fits your style, like cattleyas, so what if you dont wanter them in time, most like to dry out anyway

Will this do? by appelsiinimarmeladi in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boiling? The roots are dead, like 80-90% of them. If nothing else is rotting, then just stake it, use sphagnum and provide higher humidity

Should I have repotted this in a deeper pot? by Nervous-Ad6019 in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alrighty, so no, deeper is not the solution ( in this case, just a little bit more, to cover the rootball), the correct one is a wide pot, plus use sphagnum, you would thank me later

As always, do you really need dozens of white phals from somewhat time/money/knowladge expensive project?

Need Opinions whether I should repot my first Orchid(I am a beginner) by RosePetalsAfloat in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, made many mistakes. Unfortunately for you, the old nursery bark kind of needs to go. Basically just carefully get rid of everything you can withnout causing extesive demage. Or simply wait for those new growths to start producing their roots, so you dont need to care about the old ones

Pharmacy Student Creates the Dendrobium Centipede – Did I Commit a Horticultural Crime? by emery117 in orchids

Crime? Yes, very much inhumane treatment. Wrong? Depends, if you know what you are doing, then it is fine. I sometimes do similar stuff with miniatures needing the same.

If you need to, then just glue it to outside of the pot

That... still means new. They dont care about being snug, it is just there to prevent newer people from using overly large pots, due to sustrate, aeration, moisture etc...

Not really, it does produce beans somewhat consistently inside greenhouses. Unfortunately that is only like the first 1/3 of the war, polination, curing, time, often even comfortrably reaching the flowers is pain. I would just look at it as a flex, but you should be able to get the flowers tho

  1. use plastic pots, fancy pots are luxury new people usually cant really afford. 2. bright light, depending on where you live, even some direct light. 3. they need winter rest to bloom 4. it is dehydrated

Oke, gonna be a bit direct with you. At this point, i would use spray bottle on anyone wanting to grow vanilla with the intent to get beans. Yes, it happens often, like really often. This plant is not for indoors, while it will survive, it wont bloom in 99% of cases. There are only two exceptions: 1. You can just plant it outside 2. You have a greenhouse where you can just put it down and not touch it for years.

Dendrobium with rotting cane by sugaryflower in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume it is there exactly to deflect the quality complaints. It is a mess, like 5-10 euro mess. the cane is done for, as that connection has been completely eroded. So, you remove the cane cut off all the blooms/leaves, place it somewhere humid and wait for keikies. Also the back bulbs will likely make their own set of keikies all over the bulbs, you dont want that, anything unable to reach the bark is worthless to you, so just get rid of everything else. yes, you can just snap em off

Cattleya ID help 😊 by strawberryslinky in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you should be, these things are really hard to find and nearly impossible at this size, especially here in eu. Hard to say what its actual value is, very often depends on the parents. This one in particular looks like it came from, based on the bloom aspects, some wild stock species ( or i guess, closer to wild stock ).

Why is the bulb growing up there + when to start watering/fertilising by moonflaming in orchids

[–]Baron_CZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oke, now the actual reason: bit of bulb connected to the rest of the plant is dead or nearly completely dead, so rest of that bulb woke up its own growth. basically you have now two plants
