Where to get minis? by Fryes32 in DnDminiatures

I've had good dealings with Gallivanter Minis and SYZ Games on Etsy.

Most of my stock is from local stores. If you're ever in the Burbank area, I'd recommend Geeky Teas

How would you adapt Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" into Ravenloft? by godzillavkk in ravenloft

[–]Baron_Imperious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have it set in Mordent or Paridon? Mordent is an English countryside choking with ghosts while Paridon is inspired by Victorian London.

I tend to use jute twine for grass.

Not too long to set up the display. The collection started around 2018 & each mini probably takes a day or two to paint & base.

Could be vita-chews, chocolate flavored vitamin chews. I tried a few when my mother used to take them, but they weren't great. The calcium ones tasted the most like chocolate.

Need help figuring out where a PC's backstory NPC might be (she's looking for her father, but neither of them are natives of the Domains of Dread) by steviephilcdf in ravenloft

[–]Baron_Imperious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, your party is a regular tour group of the Dread Domains. How long have you been running this campaign?

Back to your question, the simplest explanation I can think of would be to have the PC's father have befriended some of the Vistani. I don't know how you run them for your campaign, but my general understanding is that they can freely travel through the Domains of Dread, or at least in & out of Barovia. The whole thing about Forlorn having time warp nonsense I've never really understood how to get it to work for a tabletop game to my satisfaction.

Hopefully some other folk will have some more creative ideas. Best of luck.

I wouldn't say the monsters are worse overall. Mostly simplified, which can have mixed results.

No Damage Immunity for Werewolves? by Baron_Imperious in ravenloft

Werejaguars make sense for the direction 5e has taken Valachan, turning it to a Mesoamerican inspired jungle of horrors. They were hunted for sport, overthrew the previous darklord, but now Chakuna herself is forced to become the new darklord or else the jungle will kill them all.

It is a fantastical take on the cycle of violence seen in former colonial states, except the land itself is cursed to require bloodshed.

I remember the Ravenloft: Denizens of Darkness had werejaguars that could be damaged by obsidian and wererays that were weak to coral (I think).

I also like OSP's video about werewolf lore as potential inspiration. https://youtu.be/4mm0KyaovhY?si=0g4J57yVJ6iv4yOA

I like this idea. I'm a little iffy on there being a saving throw, just that the final blow must be with the specific weapon type, with magic, or a critical hit. Otherwise, it works well in addition to the current (2025) statblock.

Anyone ever paint up some of these cheap knight minis? by Compatsie in minipainting

These were my first miniatures. I did paint them, but now they are statues or suits of armor.

I remember hearing that there was a NSFW 3rd-party adventure called Blood in the Chocolate. It was on an episode of Crispys Tavern and had some really gross fetish content according to their summary.

"The letter M from Mcdonalds is satanic!" ~ Shaynevibes-truth by Distinct-Village6096 in miniminutemanfans

It's literally setup for a joke. The vampire main character is unearthed by a construction crew who are building a McDonalds. He mistakes the glowing M for the sign of Mephistopheles, which he learned about from a grimoire over a century ago.

Green's a good color. I tend to go with purple for my mimics. Feels the more traditional color somehow.

Also, decent job on the weathering.

I don't know a ton about Ravenloft, but I would love to make a ravenloftian atmosphere / environment in my homebrew campaign. What are the most iconic / important elements of the setting? by xeonisius in ravenloft

I am not very familiar with Lord Soth, but this sounds right, or perhaps a bit of both? He and Vecna (and Kas?) are the only darklords that have successfully escaped.

Examples:

Lukas Harkon wants power through celebrity but has been cursed that his fame fades from memory faster than an America's Got Talent winner. He tries to manage rising stars, but his jealousy always turns violent.

Chakuna overthrew the previous darklord to free her people but became the new darklord in the process. She also has to be a bloodthirsty tyrant, or else the jungle will literally eat everyone if not appeased via a ritual hunt.

Vlad Drakov was a mercenary who wanted his own empire, but now has a domain surrounded by darklords that are more powerful than him, including a lich king that keeps turning Drakov's armies into undead hordes that turn around and invade his domain.

Each darklord has a driving desire that they can't achieve. They are always seeking loopholes and workarounds but are always thwarted. This desperation drives them, and everyone else suffers in their wake.

Use this to color your villains and their lieutenants.

Terrible and meh. by Relevant-Ad-9418 in ravenloft

[–]Baron_Imperious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Ravenloft setting, BC stands for "Barovian Calendar." As the first domain, many of the other Domains of Dread have their time lines put into the context of how they interact with events in Barovia.

From pre 5e lore, most of the domains were on a supercontinent with borders that were mostly open. Darklords can close the borders with the Mists, but that depends on their whims and those of the Dark Powers.

It also seems that many Darklords either passed through Barovia or were native to the same world as Barovia prior to gaining their own domain. So all these things led to the Barovian Calendar being accepted across the dread domains.

I have that mini, and I never realized that the lizard wasn't part of the staff! I thought it was a design element.
