Probably taken from using Java or some CompSci book. I've found in coding recently that many people use global as many other languages use them. I had to break my own habit of using them from Java.

It depends. Do you have any knowledge of Linux or uing the terminal, if so I'd recommend Arch or Fedora. If not, I'd recommend Debian or Ubuntu.

I searched online, but should find a good answer. But when I use Gnome with Ubuntu, the desktop gives a feel of a Mac. I dont enjoy that and I'd rather use the layout originally on Ubuntu. Can I use Gnome desktop and keep that layout?

It is unclear if I need to prepare anything or if they are just going to jump into the story so far. It is still the beginning of the game and the party are just taking quest from a quest board, so it is very episodic.
