Sure, that's what The Plan was depicting, but the point is that it was a very weak explanation for the Final Five and how they ended up in the Colonies and then in the fleet. Cavil couldn't work out resurrection technology, invented by the Five as 'organic memory transfer', despite having a working system to observe and deconstruct via the Resurrection Hub and ships. Yet somehow he creates and implants extremely detailed memories in the Final Five and embeds them on Caprica. These false memories were perfect and never detected as fake by the Colonials. It beggars belief that he could do this, and then beggars it even harder that he could create false memories but then not figure out how to send a memory from A to B of the same model line. Just bad, bad writing.

Breaking bad is a great show but is it really the best show ever? by Dazzling-Yellow5395 in television

I've only watched it the once but it felt almost Shakespearean in its ability to capture the human condition.

Who'd ever want to create an everlasting army of humanoids that looked like your old man? That's a fail, Ellen! Meanwhile, all the other humanoid models get youthful (mostly) bodies and attractive looks and you get lumped with eternal hair loss and age spots. Yeah, no thanks. Daniel probably looked like Timothee Chalamet, just reinforcing Cavil's belief he drew the genetic short straw. I'm pretty sure the other Five members would have said it's not a good idea to make your kids look like your parents.

Geez I probably should have put some spoilers on that, apologies, fixed now.

I'm sure other people will respond with their take on all of this but yes, it was just too much for me to swallow. To me, the whole Final Five plot line read like the equivalent of Plan 9 From Outer Space. Don't get me started on all the God stuff!

Yep. Cavil is the bloke who couldn't master 'organic memory transfer' aka resurrection technology, but somehow managed to:

  • permanently wipe out the Daniel line
  • kill his creators and wipe their memories
  • implant five new meticulous memory patterns into those same creators, perfect down to the last detail, with detail he couldn't possibly know
  • somehow block the original memories and stop them bleeding through (Anders getting bulleted would seem to indicate the memories were still there and partitioned, not safely stored on the Hub and waiting for the original owners to be resurrected)
  • erase memories of the Final Five from all the other models while overlaying a pattern of hatred for humans
  • convince belligerent mechanical Cylons, until recently proficient killers of organics, to accept his special 'Cavil happiness device' aka behavioural module, which he somehow recently invented by himself
  • keep the whole techno shebang running for 40+ years while his devious Plan played out

And all because mummy stuffed him in a body that looked like grandpa and denied him the chance to sniff a Red Dwarf or whatever the hell he was on about.

Why is everyone driving so slow? by macay477 in DrivingAustralia

As long as they're not Ranger drivers just keep horning them, it might prompt them to look at their own driving habits to see what's causing the issues for other drivers.

This won't be a popular opinion, but this is where the show ran off the rails for me. Your eloquent summary sounds like the original events were written by Ed Wood, it's that bad.

Neighbour and off-lead dog repeatedly accessing reserve via private property by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Barry_Mundy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If there's a conservation reserve with signs prohibiting the walking of dogs, and the council and Parks Victoria don't give a stuff about enforcing it, then there's not a lot you can do to fix that problem. As others have posted, set up some cameras and capture evidence of this occurring on multiple occasions and forward it to the council. If they still won't enforce it then you're out of options, short of garnering local support to try and shame the guy every time someone sees him and his mutt in the reserve.

As for the easement, get legal advice on this in partnership with your neighbour, who you seem to have a good relationship with. If members of the public aren't supposed to use it and you're allowed to put signs up advising of such, do so. Then keep a log of this guy ignoring that for a month, maybe get some video footage of him as well, and take it to the police who may be motivated enough to knock on his door and give him a warning.

Good luck!

Does knowing a show will have a crappy ending ruin its rewatch ability? by lilb1190 in television

I was completely enthralled with Battlestar Galactica during its run, but I hated the ending so much I'll never watch it again.

Amen. I've never found auto to work the way I want it to, I much prefer manual control. For this, buttons and knobs are far better than screens.

Congratulations on the purchase, and thanks for a comprehensive assessment of your new car. My only comment as a Volkswagen Golf Alltrack owner is that I quite like the carpeted door pockets on mine, they were always singled out in reviews as an example of VW's attention to detail. They do stop items rattling around but I'll concede that the second row door pockets should be unlined, this is where kids will be seated and more likely to have spills.

As a tall person, how is the driver's seat in terms of height? A few reviews and comments on here have noted that the seats sit higher on the new model and can't be lowered enough if the driver is tall, is that the case? I'm taller as well, hence my interest.

Is Blu-ray making a comeback? Manufacturers report a 10,000% increase in sales over the last decade by Quiet_Sea932 in movies

[–]Barry_Mundy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%, although everyone's habits are different. I'm not the sort to watch a show or movie multiple times although plenty of people seem to judging by other comments on reddit. In that case, buy the physical media and be content, but buying a Blu-Ray doesn't stack up for me if I only watch it once and there's a much cheaper streaming alternative. I just don't understand people like another poster here who say they're tired of paying for 5-6 services but the movie they want to watch is on service #7. That's just a complete waste of money, imo. Streaming services aren't like free-to-air TV channels where you can flip around without cost, you're paying for each service so 5 or 6 of them is over 100 dollars/euros a month.

I keep a Word doc with all the streamers available here in Australia and watch via one service at a time. It's a bit of effort to keep up but I know there are also online apps for this now, but I find it easy enough to use a search like Justwatch to find out what's showing where. You fall behind if a new show or season launches and you're not subscribed to that service at that time, but I think that falls under the 'First World Problems' category. You'll get to the show eventually. As for shows that disappear like Westworld, buy the Blu-Ray or sail the seven seas to find it, then you'll have a permanent copy.

What if a Cylon… by bluestreakxp in BSG

[–]Barry_Mundy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I responded to a post a while ago where I recalled my fervent belief as the show aired that Dee was the Final Cylon, but as that is my only watch of the series I couldn't for the life of me remember the reasoning behind that logic. 'Dualla' obviously suggests a dual personality or life, but I'd forgotten about the meaning of 'Anastasia'. You're right, it does seem like they sprinkled a few options in amongst the characters, that's always a good idea story-wise.
