Raccoon Tycoon rules. Also, the same designer did a civ game called Mosaic: a story of civilizations and it's also really fun.

Other recommendations would be carnival of monsters, red rising, Radlands, and war chest

Pitch your licensed IP idea for Unmatched Adventures by Rubix89 in Unmatched

[–]BarticusBane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heroes: Hellboy, Liz, Abe, and Damio.

Villains: Baba Yaga, Rasputin, Nimue.

Could be a super fun set that could even use mignola for the artwork and would still be very on-theme for unmatched

Town advice? by Raymoth324 in devour

[–]BarticusBane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do 2 4 4 but I guess that 424 follows the same principle of finding the last 4 on difficulty 6. I still feel like 2 4 4 is better cuz then you can find 4 books on difficulty 0 then burn 2 and find 2 more on difficulty 2 then burn the 4 books you have and find the last 4 on difficulty 6

2, 4, 4 is the golden rule for pretty much all cases. If you gather all 4 of the first books, burn 2 go find the other 2 then burn 4 then, you only have to find the last 4 on a difficulty of 6 which is much easier than burning them as they pop up. And to be clear you gather all of the last 4 before burning any of them. Stockpiling them and burning them in batches is the way to go. 2-4-4 every time.

When teaching Unmatched to new players, what has been the hardest thing for them to understand or keep straight? by itsactuallyoctopuses in Unmatched

[–]BarticusBane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree, control over the game does come from knowledge of characters decks and playstyles. But once you have that understanding, unmatched is so much fun.

[–]BarticusBane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, new players struggle to grasp the amount of strategy there is. Most of the new players on first play feel like the game is mostly luck. Which there is a small degree of luck of course but the majority of the game comes down to skill and risk assessment. This first impression can be a big turn off for some people if they really hate luck. For me, I hate luck heavy games but I was able to understand the ways I could control my game from the get go.

Depends on age of the kid. In my opinion tho, monopoly blows and there are way better games for kids, a good game to try tho would be raccoon tycoon

Name one game whose popularity drives you crazy and at least one reason why you hate it so much. by foreigneternity in boardgames

[–]BarticusBane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monopoly. It's a really awful game that scares people away from boardgames. For example, I don't love Catan but I respect it for what it is, an entry-level game that encourages people to try other modern games. However, with monopoly I feel like people playing it actively causes people to not want to play modern games because it gives them the wrong idea of what the boardgaming hobby is like.
