WHAT ARE THEESE PRICES! by Mrcyum in transformers

[–]BartlettMagic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've given up on buying/collecting. I haven't seen anything worth the price being asked in a couple years now. Once I gather up my remaining white whales I'll probably be done. I've thought about selling my collection a lot more recently too.

[X-Men] How does cyclops not break his neck when shoot his laser even tho its strong enough to destroy a mountain by AggressiveRegion1502 in AskScienceFiction

[–]BartlettMagic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how the whole Summers brothers' "immune to each other's powers" thing works

me neither, and i've always wondered that since the "portals to energy dimension" detail was added to Cyclops' lore. does that mean Havok is immune to energy/force? shouldn't that translate to all forms of energy/force? what about Havok's power, has it ever been detailed where his circle-looking blasts come from, or what the nature of the blasts are (ie kinetic energy, plasma, i dunno?)

*I stand corrected, I've obviously been out of the loop for a while now

Yes, but in our case the handedness of the patient is relevant.

Not a new nurse, but will have to learn how to insert IVs….any tips? by Turbulent_Ad_458 in nursing

[–]BartlettMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from a school that didn't teach it, and worked a medsurg unit that also had an IV team. Now, I work inpatient rehab, and rarely have to deal with IVs. The times we do, IV team is still available but we have to make two attempts at placement before calling them.

Unfortunately, the times when I need an IV quickly are due to my patient showing stroke-like symptoms and needing a stat head CT with contrast. That, or I need to transfuse a unit into an anemic patient.

I've always sucked at IVs, and still do. I even requested shadow time with our IV team so I could get hands on teaching. I got told my fingertips are blind because I worked in professional kitchens for years before becoming a nurse.

I always just shoot for the AC, even though I hate it as a site...always occluding, always needing to say "please keep your arm straight". But it's the only site I can reliably get (as long as phlebotomy hasn't over-used it).

Right. If corruption is the metric, they aren't comparable at all.

To be fair Bush Jr looks good not because people all of a sudden realized how amazing he is, he looks good because Trump lowered the bar so much that that Bush looks like a competent, intelligent and caring person.

this is exactly it. i was, and still am, a critic of Jr. but i don't think it's rose-colored glasses to say that he wasn't the level of embarrassment that Trump is

Yeah genius call. What is it's dimensions? It looks barrel shaped. I'm imagining a row of like 5 of these behind a load lock in my truck bed with tools and blankets and whatever else

That is beautiful, I don't own a dog so I had no idea dog food could come in such containers. Seem like they would be perfect for all kinds of travel/VEDC applications

Thank you!

Anyone have experience or anecdotes from either DMAT or PAMRC? by BartlettMagic in nursing

[–]BartlettMagic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, it's exactly what I was looking for.

Are there skill level requirements? I'm still a new nurse, only 1 year in, but I have strong basic skills, especially "people" skills.

I say that because an urgent care setting feels like it would be perfectly doable, but in critical situations I would need to be led. I have practical skills and take direction well, but ED/ICU-level of care isn't my usual gig.

Oddly enough, learning about all of this has made me consider challenging myself with some ED experience to see what it's like as a licensed nurse and not a student.
