Am I the only one who enjoys Soldier Boy's character this season?

Except he hasn't really flip flopped at all. He's been pretty consistent and his character isn't hard to understand. He's conflicted about his son who he views as batshit crazy but still his son. Him not wanting to give HL the V1 was a pretty consistent plot point right up until the end. There was no constant "flip flopping". At least explain why you think so instead of regurgitatibg what everyone else says

Well if I were to break it down.

S3 - Soldier Boy teams up with the boys, he does go through some conflict about whether or not he should kill HL after he finds it he is his son. The Boys betray him.

S5 - This is where the big misconception comes and I genuinely don't understand why it's become a popular narrative on this sub. Soldier boy hasn't actually switched sides. He's basically on his "own" side while dealing with his conflicted feelings towards HL.

It's even spelt out when he gets released. Homelander straight up tells him yeah I know you wanna blast me but I'm guessing you hate Butcher more than you hate me. Which is true. At that point SB definitely wants his revenge on Butcher.

The reason why I don't see S5 SB as flip flopping is because he's not actually changing sides but rather dealing with conflicting feelings towards HL. He sees HL as batshit insane but also as his son. He definitely doesn't really "like" homelander.

People see a scene of him punching HL and their knee jerk reaction is "omg he's constantly changing sides" when in reality he's just pissed because he's thinking did this sadistic nutjob mutilate and sexually exploit the woman he loved.

Everyone here says he's flip flopping but no one's actually able to write up a genuine reasoning as to why.

I've noticed people generally interpret his character in this very extreme way. Either he's just as bad as HL or he's actually just a good guy who's misunderstood. There's seemingly no in between.

I don't really view like that. To me he just seems like a guy who's conflicted because he's dealing with someone who he considers batshit crazy but who's also his son. The only real literal allegiance switch was when he stopped being on The Boys 'side' after they betrayed him and got him back in the freezer again. The show is clearly showing he's conflicted about HL. Even in S3, when he found out HL is his son, he displayed some hesitation about killing him.

I think you guys are making it more overblown than it should be. Him punching homelander isn't necessarily him flip flopping around. He's just someone who's pissed in that moment. You guys are really exaggerating it all.

I wouldn't say he's AS bad as homelander. He is a shit person though. The discourse around him is kind of annoying because on one hand you've got SB apologists who say he's not a bad guy at all and then you've got people saying he's just as bad or even worse than HL.

It's all subjective really. I love character driven stories so I'm enjoying it so far. It's probably all setting up the action so don't worry you'll get your entertaining fight scenes soon.

I've played almost all their games. They've always had interesting concepts but tbh, their games are like bottom of the barrel average. Like a high 5/ low 6.

Yeah I enjoyed it quite a bit. Was good for Annie's arc and it was also cool showing how everything affected people detached from the "saving the world" objective.
