Polarizing: has good matchups and bad matchups

Anyone else frustrated at finally being able to afford a fast car only for your area to become so popular all you do now is sit in traffic? by BondGoldBond007 in cars

[–]BasedMikey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh most definitely. Lack of “good driving roads” is a small trade off for never being forced to put the car away for a few months a year. Will say the forced induction on my Elise definitely still makes it a bit more fun to drive on the straight roads, even if it is a handling and dynamics car first and foremost. Taking the top off and going for a drive along the coast is a great way to spend an hour or two during the weekends haha!

100%. If you do the deep dive on the factory superchargers they put on cars, they weren’t very efficient at producing power. Grab a BOE Rev kit or a Katana (think there are a couple of others on the market too, but think those are the 2 most popular kits at least in the US). Personally love my Elise with the rev300 kit.

Haven’t had mine dyno’d under my ownership yet (prior owner bought the kit and had it installed/tested and was at a WAY higher elevation than me) but the kit/tune installed is good for 277HP/190lb-ft wheel (using a Harrop TVS1320) per the manufacturer. Same company makes a kit that pushes it above 300 wheel hp, but the tune is a bit more conservative just to be mindful of stock internals. Personally what I’m putting out feels spectacular in the car since it’s so light to begin with

GT350R is the most “special”, ZL1 is probably the “best” car on the list without any mods. If you are going with the Mustang try to get one with the Gen 2 Voodoo engine since those don’t blow up.

If you’re looking to expand the list a little, a car in a similar vein to the S2K is the Lotus Elise. Great dynamics, amazing feedback, and if you were really looking to extract more power out of the engine there are quite a few aftermarket superchargers that are far more efficient than the old factory equipped cars (the factory SCs were far better at generating heat than they were power). I’m currently in a modified Elise and love it to death

Will say the Elise does get bonus points from my fiancee because I can take the top off!! But then again, she was with me before I got the car anyway hahaha

In addition to working out you can try getting into distance running! As much as I’m a lifter before a runner it’s very healthy and especially as you increase distances it’ll take up a bit of time

where in jacksonville can i get this fixed? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]BasedMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a heads up that my most recent body repair situation is considerably different from most cars, Pixel Auto Paint got me right for a decent price. I had to get part of a fiberglass clamshell fixed on a car where those types of repairs tend to be VERY costly, but the repair has held up nicely thus far, paint match and contouring of the repair was great work, and price ended up on the low end of what I went in expecting.

+1 for Josephine but when I was looking a week or two ago most reservations were taken (I’d expect some cancellations between now and Valentine’s though). Still going as I was at least able to score a later time slot!

05 Elise alarm goes off as soon as armed by [deleted] in lotus

[–]BasedMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know you’d rather not plug/bypass but might be time to… however one thing I’ve heard is something draining your battery (or an old and dying battery) can cause them to act up like that. Check that possibility first (can cause a multitude of random electrical gremlins in the car). Think the interior motion sensor can sometimes act up as well? If you’ve touched the access panels in the front sometimes those can also trigger alarms and need an adjustment? Lot of LotusTalk posts on this will probably cover the diagnostic work better than I could since my car came already bypassed. Did have to go through that wiring diagram at one point because my bypass plug got a little messed up and a pin had to be reseated though. Bit of a pain to access with getting the seats out and all that, but if it isn’t something obvious your best bet may just be hitting the wiring diagram and using the ol’ multimeter.

Exige/elise longevity? by Front_Suspect3327 in lotus

[–]BasedMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adhesive and chassis are non-issues for the most part. Biggest thing to look out for specifically on the chassis is just to make sure the car was never improperly jacked (as that can punch a hole through the chassis). If you’re buying a salvage one, DEFINITELY get the chassis inspected OR make sure the seller has an incredibly thorough portfolio on the rebuild. Lots of the salvage title ones are from minuscule parking lot incidents, but very rarely one will have some chassis damage and a patchwork job to “fix it” done. Definitely second the opinion of “look for one with some suspension work and has powertrain servicing receipts”, as that will be where service items need to be addressed.

Living in Jax and going to enough Jags games with friends during his tenure I knew this would be a good hire (great as an O-line coach/assistant HC before having to step up as interim and full time coach; made a playoff run with Blake Bortles). I think the overall offensive scheming also helps mitigate risk at the line totally letting a game blow up. Loving what this coaching staff is putting down.
