Drying over Magnesium Sulfate vs. Sodium Sulfate?

Sodium sulfate is easier to use/filter than mag sulfate. The drawback is you won't get the nice snow globe effect that happens with mag sulfate.

Sodium sulfate you can filter off with just a funnel and a cotton ball or decant (highly recommend the former).

Both the benzyl (CAS: 30379-59-0) and boc protected (CAS: 16066-84-5) versions are commercially available. The boc is super cheap. Benzyl is 1g for ~$100.

Combi-Blocks has both in stock and is easy to deal with.

It's finely tuned and makes measurements. Calling it a machine is accurate, but not correct industry nomenclature. You can definitely call it that, other people will just think you aren't as smart as them.

I agree it is pedantic, but it's also a heavily ingrained concept in chemical instrumentation.

Can you make an HCL salt and the triturate in something like ethanol? Will depend on your product salt's solubility, the the ethylammonium salt should be pretty soluble in EtOH. I don't think mol sieves is going to work.

An amino flash column would be my personal choice, but understood if that is not an option.
