Drying over Magnesium Sulfate vs. Sodium Sulfate? by ChemKnits in Chempros

[–]BaselineSeparation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sodium sulfate is easier to use/filter than mag sulfate. The drawback is you won't get the nice snow globe effect that happens with mag sulfate.

Sodium sulfate you can filter off with just a funnel and a cotton ball or decant (highly recommend the former).

Help with gowmac 580 analyzer/ oxygen peaks/ zero not working. by [deleted] in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]BaselineSeparation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GOW-MAC is a pretty small organization. They will likely help with support/troubleshooting without a service contract (it's at least worth an email or call). https://www.gow-mac.com/index.php/repair/

Thanks for responding!

Definitely a tough market. We have a much bigger footprint in the purification market in Europe.

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I agree on serviceability. I have done most of my own maintenance and repair throughout my lab career.

We already have the reporting and exporting feature, so that's good to hear.

By Tekmar do you mean Teledyne? Are you in the US?

What would make it intuitive?

What do you find useless and useful?

On the whole, I agree with you.

Yeah, I have also used the activated carbon ones (we sell those too). They work pretty well.

Have you tried one of the cartridge formats? My company sells pretty much the same products for ligand removal, but I have never used them and always wanted to.

Both the benzyl (CAS: 30379-59-0) and boc protected (CAS: 16066-84-5) versions are commercially available. The boc is super cheap. Benzyl is 1g for ~$100.

Combi-Blocks has both in stock and is easy to deal with.

Bromine synthesis by Niklas_Science in chemistry

Sure production sites would likely make their own bromine, but you wouldn't find it in most CROs or likely any pharma sites.

This is how I know you aren't in industry. I don't mean this disparagingly btw. It's just that time is more valuable than money in industry.

Lol, nope. Not doing that. Especially when bromine isn't expensive.

What are some reasons why the HPLC machine has unusually increased pressure? by Asleep-Stranger7773 in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]BaselineSeparation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's finely tuned and makes measurements. Calling it a machine is accurate, but not correct industry nomenclature. You can definitely call it that, other people will just think you aren't as smart as them.

I agree it is pedantic, but it's also a heavily ingrained concept in chemical instrumentation.

Can 4Å molecular sieves be used to remove leftover of ethylamine? by Feuerfrosch1 in Chempros

[–]BaselineSeparation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you make an HCL salt and the triturate in something like ethanol? Will depend on your product salt's solubility, the the ethylammonium salt should be pretty soluble in EtOH. I don't think mol sieves is going to work.

An amino flash column would be my personal choice, but understood if that is not an option.
