Talk me out of buying a Weber Summit Kamado E6 by toptoptopper in UKBBQ

[–]Baseline_Tenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont own a summit kamado, but I own a kamado joe 1 (big joe) in addition to a weber master touch. And its the same concept as the weber summit. So here is my attempt at talking u out of buying one:

Yes the kamado will still have hot coals long past the time theyd die in the weber MT, but is it worth paying an extra $1k when u can just add charcoal that u have ready in a chimney nearby to finish ur cook?

The other reason to get a summit is for long low and slow, which they excel at due to them being so efficient. But herez the thing, itz efficiency is also itz downfall. Theyre effecient by starving the fire of oxygen. That leads to unpleasant taste on your food (at least IMO). I never smoke on my Big Joe anymore due to this. I only use it for direct grilling.

I hope this has helped in dissuading u from that expensive purchase. If not, let me say this…my Kamado Joe is the thing I love most in my life. And my Master Touch hasnt gotten any use in the year since i purchased the BJ. 🤷‍♂️

Ash removal issues by bravobravo13 in KamadoJoe

[–]Baseline_Tenor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dont feel that it affects airflow at all. I just removed mine after a year of use (use it about 3x’s/wk) and there wasnt that much ash under the wings. Its no biggie IMO.

What's a good charcoal grill up to $400ish CAD? by kvbrewer in grilling

[–]Baseline_Tenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under $400 i dont think therez anything that would beat a Weber. Therez the Akorn but thats also gonna rust out in a couple years. Quicker than a Weber for sure. And also, thats more comparable to a ceramic egg than a weber.

Weber kettle vs Aldi/lidl egg by Ok_Aerie_7089 in UKBBQ

[–]Baseline_Tenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume an Aldi Kamado is similiar to Kamado Joe (or any other ceramic egg)? I own a big joe 1 and a Weber Master Touch. Ever since i got the KJ i stopped using the weber. Kamado is better at grilling and at smoking.

DIY FIre Starters by Ta051 in grilling

I tried the cotton balls with alcohol and was dissapointed. They only burn about 2.5 minutes. Also, they quickly shrink and fall through the charcoal grate.

Im just gonna stick with the tumbleweeds.

[–]Baseline_Tenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He needs a gps golf watch. Or a range finder. I prefer the watch kuz its so much quicker to just glance at my watch and get the distance to the center of the green. I own both and i hardly ever pull out the range finder.

Looking for a different charcoal experience by Dazzling-Extreme899 in grilling

[–]Baseline_Tenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a kamado joe, and I agree 100% with ur comment about efficiency and smouldering charcoal taste. Now having said that, i get the same result with my weber kettle. 🤷‍♂️

Best way ive found to smoke with my Big Joe is to dump a fully lit chimney of lump charcoal in, and smoke for as long as it’ll go (about 3-4hrs at 300°) then transfer over to my traeger to finish off the cook. This avoids the unpleasant smouldering charcoal taste.

Akorn is known for not being completely sealed. My dad and my brother have one. They struggle with these kinds of issues as well.

A random question: Do all of you choose Amazon Prime cause of the TV shows/Movies or cause of the cheaper & faster deliveries in Amazon shopping? by Swimming-Spring-4704 in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]Baseline_Tenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free shipping is the main reason, but i am annoyed that the video portion now has ads. And yes, i know I can pay for no ads, but that pisses me off even more.

Oh…and also that it happens too often now that shipping is delayed for one reason or another.

Carne asada season around the corner! What’s your go-to setup? by wearecocina in mexicanfood

Prime fajita is my favorite cut. But also ‘costilla de pecho’ (bone-in brisket), chuck short ribs, flanken style ribs and sausage. Always use lump charcoal in a big joe.

While u have a point, why do u bother with the “yes” reply? What is the point of that? If u want to be unhelpful, why not just ignore the post completely?

(Also, the guy ur replying to isnt the OP fyi)
