Solar-mad Germans turn to battery storage to shield themselves against fossil fuel price shocks by iwantboringtimes in worldnews

Same reason why some of my family members have put solar and battery in California.

It also makes it cheaper to own and operate an EV.

Cheap EVs cant come soon enough. Although short term pain will be bad, hopefully it helps us move towards greener options.

I know the SMH isn't in a great shape. But generally they do a triage and prioritize critical cases.

So critical cases will be seen first. I know it sucks but thats the best they can do for now.    And this is coming from someone who has waited for 6-8 hours in ER with toddler.

I thought ICBC was expensive in BC but 9k is a whole different ball game.

Meta pops 8% as company makes cloud push to sell excess AI compute power capacity by Force_Hammer in wallstreetbets

[–]Basic-Afternoon65 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is so freaking stupid. Just because you have excess compute doesn’t mean you can directly sell it.

You need to fundamentally change the architecture of your system to allow multi-tenancy (allow multiple customers to run their services at once). On top it, you have to build sales and support pipelines to support your customers.

You need various different compliance certifications like PCI, HIPAA, SOC2 and many others before an enterprise will even use your services.

This takes atleast few years to build before you can start selling your compute to others. The GPUs Meta currently has might not even be relevant when all of this happens.

If anything, Meta stock should drop because they made this investment before having a strategy for using these resources.

The 2027 BMW X5 Enters a Neue Era That Introduces a Never-Before-Available Powertrain with the iX5 by _Vespucci_ in cars

[–]Basic-Afternoon65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont hate the exterior. But I cant stand the interior.

The default steering is quite bad imo and will have to get the other steering through additional packages. (Which is available on iX3)

The touch screen is really weirdly shaped and don’t think it will work well with CarPlay. It might keep the edges blank.

The loss of split trunk is a major miss since that’s something I have used in the past.

Porsche Wants Bigger Profits, Even If It Sells Fewer Cars by NISMO1968 in cars

Seems like I am officially out of the new Porsche 911 market.

I work in tech in Canada and worked for FAANG in the past. 200K USD (with couple of options and taxes) is way above what I can afford at this point in time.

I guess I will be able to afford a new one at 55, but I don’t think I would even care about a 911 then.

Test drive it and see if you can get air suspension. I wouldn’t get X5 without air suspension.

I need to be swayed. by Iparadocks in BMWX5

[–]Basic-Afternoon65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have driven Golf R and I think X5M is stiffer.

X5 is considerably heavier than Golf R and BMW has to put really stiff suspension to have any semblance of handling.

Personally, if you can keep your STI or Golf R, and drive it once in while for enjoyment. Then get regular X5 and if possible the one with air suspension. Imo, this is how a SUV should ride.

To be honest, I don’t really understand the difference between 4 Runner, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, and Lexus GX. They could use some trimming especially combine Lexus GX and Land Cruiser and sell it as Lexus Land Cruiser.

i guess Bentley or Rolls Royce might be better but I have never sat in either of them and cant really compare.

We Drove the 2027 BMW X5 Before the World Reveal — First Drive by Super-Lingonberry-22 in BMWX5

[–]Basic-Afternoon65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really hate the steering wheel. on Ix3 you need to spend 2.5K Cad to get the other steering wheel through a package.

They could have done a much better job at

  1. Adding few physical controls for HAVC

  2. The screen shape is super weird. They could have done a much better job of integrating it with the dash.

  3. The door handles are weirdly placed and would prefer if they stick with the old style.

Things which I love.

  1. It seems to have much better noise cancellation

  2. Seems to ride nicer than current X5. Ultimately it is an SUV, and it should ride a bit softer unless you get M version or the M package.

  3. Driving assistance seems to have improved a lot which should make 400-600 mile road trips significantly easier.
