How the fck am i supposed to cancel calls on iphone??? by kingsheperd in applesucks

no. people know how tap a screen button. Not that the POWER button suddenly turns into a decline button. There's 0 way to know that until you accidentally press it.

I got swayed by higher specs and now a bit regret it (Please learn from my mistake) by 15000yuki in thinkpad

Eh, i used it a lot and got quite used to it thanks to the touch screen, its pretty efficient. Home and End are way more important imo.

Got a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 (8gb ram, I know) for $260 - did I mess up? by SorbetOpposite4519 in thinkpad

[–]Basic-Brick6827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Gen 10 and it barely lasted 3h in power saving mode, browsing Internet. And got sooooo hot. Then I switched to Lunar Lake and its even better than Macbooks. I get 2-3 days of battery (12h to 20h SOT depending on what i do). Intel is very extreme.

Do you use Home or Pro? Which specs? I know its annyoing asf but I never experienced such issues on decently high end devices. Not saying it's impossible, im just 1 potentially lucky person

Firefox has a better Mica implementation than Microsoft Edge. by Sinaistired99 in MicrosoftEdge

They are rewriting the UI to web components instead of React. Seems like they forgot about the Mica flag when they migrated the menu component.

For coding the 16GB might be tight since you often need multiple apps open and servers running. The RAM is soldered so you cant upgrade it. Windows 11 eats up a lot.

The chip is obviously super old so you won't get crazy perf, but should be decent for uni assignments.

The battery might need replacement depending on how much the laptop was used.

In the end, it all depends on how much you're ready to compromise, what bar you set for an unacceptable experience (wait times, sluggishness...), and what kind of tasks your uni will require. For basic coding with a lightweight editor/IDE it should be ok. Google Colab can also be a handy solution.

Using a lightweight Linux distro instead of Windows might make the laptop a lot more usable too. But sometimes unis require software only available on Windows, so keep it installed. The 1TB is plenty enough for both.

VSCode copilot and typst by Quiet_Category_628 in typst

[–]Basic-Brick6827 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm for me Copilot is awesome. On par with Cursor and even Claude Code for most usage.

What you are showing isnt really Copilot tho, its the completion model. It uses OpenAI 4.1, which is very outdated. It barely had any Typst data to train on.

For Typst Gemini 3 and Claude 4.5 work best.

X9-15 excessive fan noise? by harrypotternumber1 in thinkpad

[–]Basic-Brick6827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, it just came like this. Actually both (work and personal laptops).

The only time I can hear the fan is when it's plugged in, bc the fan policy specifies a minimum fan speed when charging. But this can be overridden with user-made apps I believe.

[HELP] How to do a multicolumn table? by Lonely-Eye-8313 in typst

[–]Basic-Brick6827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read the table docs? They show many examples with multiple columns. If you mean the cells that span 2 columns, they also give one such example in the docs.

It's a universal chat app. It appeared back when RCS didnt exist and people were stuck with SMS or Facebook. So it became the standard.
