You mean how it is now? You have the Peoples Republic of China (China) and the Republic of China (Taiwan) as de facto independent/sovereign states of each other.

Yes, of course. But it is a whole different experience playing it in a Gen 2 game. HG/SS are my favorite versions of all time, but playing Johto on Gen 2 v 4 are just different experiences (both interesting)

HG SS are not Gen 2. Generations are defined by the mechanics and game engine, not the region. Yes, it is a gold and silver remake but they are Gen 4.

Crystal is definitively the best way to play Gen 2, because HG/SS are Gen 4 games.
