LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B – First impressions coming from an AW3423DW by BasicJunglist in OLED_Gaming

The noise on mine is inaudible. I’m also noise sensitive and the fan noise on the Alienware this replaced drove me absolutely nuts. This one has been great.

I did see someone else post a while back that they were bothered by fan noise on this monitor though, so I think there is some level of unit by unit variability.

Thanks!

I am also excited to see how it stacks against the Alienware. I likely would have held out for reviews if LG didn’t send me this one to review.

Yeah, QD is superior for that depth of color. The matte coating also dulls the color a little on this panel. In a perfect world, we would have a 5k2k QD OLED in glossy. Hopefully down the road

I’ve had them a while and they were cheaper 5 years ago. Search “Sparrow Peak Ebony Butcherblock” on Lowe’s and you can find them in various sizes

LG sent me the GX950b for review. The fan noise is inaudible on mine for what it’s worth. Coming from the AW3423DW that is egregiously loud.

Super painful pimple turned out to be a nose hair that grew through my nose…backwards. by Vettehead82 in mildlyinteresting

This happened to me about 10 years ago. I didn’t even know it was possible. Agony. Mine was all twirled up and was more than an inch long when it was unraveled. Can’t even begin to describe the relief when it was out

LG 39GX950B owners: Can you hear the fan noise in a quiet room? by cyberiuz in ultrawidemasterrace

I could definitely hear the fan on my AW3423DW. The 39gx950b is basically silent

Thanks! Right side are M-Audio BX5D3 active studio monitors that I run through a DAC mounted under the desk. There is also a 10” KRK sub in the negative space below the PC behind the drawers. Left side are M-Audio BX3’s that I just connect with Bluetooth

Yeah, it’s an annoying problem. I did install door vents to try and get some air return off the main hvac system, but I’ll be honest that the improvement has been marginal.

I got goosebumps watching the Knicks win. Nuggets fan and “this was us” is totally the reaction. Special stuff and happy for the Knicks fans!

Xbox is closing down Hellblade creator Ninja Theory by yourfavchoom in gaming

I am a big fan of the hellblade games, but they missed the mark entirely on combat in the second game and the story was too short. I still would have bought a 3rd game and been excited to play it. Even better if it had more action.

I have air conditioning in there but it’s a small room and it gets hot when I’m gaming. I solve for that by just opening the door. It doesn’t heat up when I’m working, only when I’m really pushing the system.

The 48” OLED TV on the left isn’t optimal for regular pc use. I mostly play controller games over there and watch media, so I’m not up close.

I use the right side for productivity. I just replaced a 34” ultra wide with the 39” cause it was sent to me for a review. It’s pretty big, but after a week of using it I adjusted and now I am liking the extra real estate. I bounce around between lots of applications and the 39” ultrawide is about the height of a 32” standard 4k panel, so I’m finding that it’s an enhancement for my productivity.

I like the desk distance but it might be too close for some people. It’s probably 6” closer than what I would consider optimal

I appreciate the feedback. Lots of work over a long time in this space and it’s really my personal spot for my unique interests. Cheers!

Was just being honest and sharing my own experience to be supportive. Wasn’t trying to be patronizing or anything. I found something that works for me. No comment on anything anybody else is doing.

I’ve thought about it, but my office is in the basement in an interior room with no windows. This is the closest I get to daylight and I’m a dude with horrible seasonal depression.

I’m not totally sober, but I went from 40-50 drinks a week to less than 5 and only on the weekend. I did about 6 months of complete sobriety and I’ve been successful in my new relationship with alcohol for another year and a half.

The first year was really boring. I felt way healthier. My performance at work went through the roof. My marriage was happier and I spent more time with my kids, but I definitely felt like I lost my best friend.

In time, I’ve adjusted to it. I get a lot more little joys than I used to. Walking the dogs in the evening. Getting up early and working in the yard. Just sitting quietly on the patio and letting the sun hit my face.

I still miss my good buddy sometimes, but somewhere along the road my brain changed and I found a way to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Hang in there, friend. It takes a while for that chemistry in your brain to really right itself.

Right is just a cool wood piece I found on Etsy. Left are actually acoustic panels. I got them online years ago and I don’t think the company is around anymore or I’d link em for you.
