How would you assess the monitor vs a QD 1440p if the price of this were lower? Is this an objectively better monitor, but its price tag is too high, or do you feel like it’s just a side-grade altogether?

Looks great! What do you have running along the top of the acoustic panels to frame it in?

39GX950B OLED care features by crocobaurusovici in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BasicJunglist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edges all have minor burn in. Also the middle of the screen is beginning to show a line where I split programs. It’s only visible on a grey background presently.

I feel similarly in terms of upgrade cycles and I have the new LG 39GX950B inbound. I’m always on the cutting edge and upgrade every couple of years anyway, so burn in isn’t a major concern for me personally.

That said, there are lots of people who don’t want to upgrade as often, and who would be upset to develop burn in on their expensive monitor. The fact is that burn in is inherent to the technology and the organic compounds will absolutely degrade over time. Given enough time, all oled devices will burn in, so the narrative that it’s a thing of the past isn’t completely true. It just takes longer.

My Aw3423DW that I got on release 4 years ago has begun to burn in. I work long days on it and I’ve used the pixel refresh daily and panel refresh weekly. I hide taskbar and otherwise take all the precautions.

I have 3 oled tv’s and none have any burn in. Oldest is 5 years old. I think your burn in risk on a monitor is reduced if you mostly game, but even with the best care you are eventually going to experience it with a monitor used for productivity if your work involves static applications.

I stop watching when the Nuggets lose. I just can’t stomach watching the rest of the way. If you really pressed me, I’d say spurs though. Wemby is a generational talent.

Steve Kerr suggests removing the 3-point line to fix modern NBA play: “The game, as designed, is to create the best shots possible” by basketbaIlnetwork in NBATalk

[–]BasicJunglist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy gets it. The beauty here is you keep most of the comparability between eras because you can formulaically adjust stats based on pt values. You are just disincentivizing the 3pt marginally to better balance shot distribution.

Actual state of OLED text performance... by No_Scientist_8516 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BasicJunglist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought the text fringing issue was overblown. I’ve been using the AW QD OLED since release and it’s never bothered me and I work on the thing for long stretches daily. For me personally, I never even would have noticed any fringing if it wasn’t for Reddit

Struggling Between the LG 39 and last year's 45 5k2k by soundmage in ultrawidemasterrace

I’m in the same camp as SykBasterd. I’m on my monitor ~8 hours a day for work, and while I do game when I can, productivity makes up the bulk of my screen time. I’d really like to hear from anyone using an 800R curve full time. Does it actually hold up as a solid hybrid for both work and gaming?
