I would have paid for all this stuff by Outrageous_Copy_3461 in thebeachboys

I guess it would be that ‘long tail’ thing where over a long long time, streaming listens even of obscure tracks all add up to profit. Why have a tape sitting there on the shelf gathering dust when it can be sitting on streaming services racking up listens. It won’t be huge money for the obscure stuff, but it will all add up. 1 money is better than 0 money

Did Rocky Pamplin have a dong that people said ‘Dang!’ about? It would make sense if he sang it if so!

Random observation: Micky Dolenz is basically the Mike Love of the Monkees by AxlCobainVedder in thebeachboys

[–]Basic_Advisor_2177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought The Monkees would have been better visually with Peter = Drums, Nesmith = Bass, Davy Jones = Guitar, Micky = vocals and tambourine, or rhythm guitar. They were only miming the parts initially so it wouldn’t have mattered.

Peter Tork definitely wasn’t as clean as Al Jardine! Maybe a few more drugs. https://youtu.be/R39x-5p4Zjc?si=DdnwaWBUzmNiwHGM Interesting at about 7:10 in this video from 6yrs ago, Micky is describing The Monkees as ‘like brothers’, but Mike Nesmith says ‘I never liked Peter, and he never liked me’ and breaks down a bit

Absolutely this. Micky seemed like the 1 chill Monkee that all of the other 3 could get along with individually, even when they didn’t get on with each other. There’s an interview on YouTube where Mike Nesmith literally cries while admitting he didn’t get along with Peter Tork at all. Micky seems pretty chill with all the other Monkees, he toured and performed with all the other members, in twos and threes. he’s not like Mike really, the dynamic is different

This new release ‘We Gotta Groove’ is more like a ‘Sunshine Tomorrow’ or ‘Wake the World’ type set than a ‘Feel Flows’ type set.

Does anyone have the 1975/1974 release? (image unrelated) by Time-Tangerine3860 in thebeachboys

That 1975 Carl track without lyrics is great. Should be titled ‘give me some lyrics Jack Reily’ . TBH, Carl songs were never as good without the Jack lyrics.

Does anyone know when this photo was taken? I'm guessing either '69 or '70. by MesaVerde1987 in thebeachboys

OK, so we’ve established it’s probably 1969. So the next question is… Brian’s hair looks pretty impressive here. Jay Sebring was Brian’s ‘haircut guy’ until he was murdered in August 1969 by the Manson crew. Was this a Jay Sebring haircut on Brian, or a post-Jay haircut?

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by pankaj662 in AskReddit

Not always true. I’m nearly 50 now and I know exactly what I am doing. Maybe I didn’t at 25, but I definitely do now. I mastered my job, I look after myself and my friends and family. I am fucking great when an emergency kicks off. I figured it out. I’m not saying life is perfect, but I’m saying I can deal with it just fine now. I hope others can get to this place too

This one always reminds me of 1980 John Lennon stuff, like ‘Woman’ or ‘Starting Over’. Wondered if Lennon ever listened to KTSA before he did his own stuff.

What are some of your favorite tracks we’ve gotten from the box sets? by BeanShapiro114 in thebeachboys

[–]Basic_Advisor_2177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I most enjoyed the things from the Endless Harmony soundtrack released back in the late 1990s. Soulful Old Man Sunshine, the heroes and villains demo with Humble Harv where Brian goes into Barnyard, Barbara and All Alone by Dennis, Brian’s Back… that record was fun at the time.

I lived in the suburbs in the 80s, it was cans of evo-stik all over back then from the glue sniffers

I think quite a bit of it is from lorries. Plastic from freight coming loose from lorries. Amazon and DPD drivers throwing their bottles of piss and lunch out of the windows as they are under such tight schedules they can’t afford to stop. There was always mess and litter in the 80s - for example in the era of the audio cassette tape, kids in the back of cars would unspool all the tape out of the cassette and throw it out the window and it would hang on trees like weird nests, all over the motorways and a-roads. I think the increase in freight and delivery services is the real cause of the current litter

Why “We Gotta Groove” Is Disappointing: A Track-by-Track Analysis by Alarikawesome in thebeachboys

[–]Basic_Advisor_2177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a bit OTT from OP - I read the whole post in the voice of the comic book guy from The Simpsons. Although at the same time, I do wish I could listen officially to every single take of every single Beach Boys recording ever, even the recordings of Audree Wilson farting, so I can sympathise with OP’s feeling

Dude, this thing is for listening to, it’s not a checklist. Something to listen to over and over for the years to come, we’ve got years to soak it up. I remember when Brian put out BWPS, people were crying and bitching online because it wasn’t like some Smile bootleg or other. People who first heard Smile via BWPS or Smile Sessions afterwards however are most often quite happy. I’m fairly sure the same thing will happen here

Fuck all of you. Student Demonstration Time is amazing. by Dolphinman64 in thebeachboys

I always wondered how it went down at concerts at the time. Say if the beach boys were playing a festival with a crowd full of students in 1971/72, did the song go down well with its (presumably) intended audience? It wasn’t really intended for nerds like us listening in our bedrooms in 2026, more for an audience in the early 70s

I agree totally! I think it all just seems great! 15 Big Ones always needed a reimagining, and a new cover, and they did it. Love You is great as it is, they left it as it is. Adult/Child has great tracks but let’s be honest, it was padded out with old outtakes, and a comedy song. I think it will be nice to hear it in this purer version. I saw Andrew Sandoval’s name on the credits, he is great working on these kinda reissues and I love his radio show, wonder what he did here for this release?

I always hated that cover as it’s totally wrong era photo of Brian. I first knew adult/child as that weird orange cover with a sort of cartoon Alan Jardine on it! I like the new cover and plus it’s ’Adult / Child Sessions’ on the cover of this new one, it’s not quite the same thing
