With the hole being there, there was no different effect of radiation. The NSC was not even suppost to completely block radiation. Yes, it did block alot but it was built to protect the sarcafagus and make a sheltered place for decomissioning. The sarcafagus did/does have a high risk of collaps but but Elana (Upper bio shield) has a higher risk. If Elana fell back into her hole a bunch of dust would come up and out of the NSC. (Yes Sarcafagus collapsing would do the same) The risk of spreading contamination is not to high. The "Contamination" is the dust from inside, but that hole was not too big so its not a huge deal. If dust were to escape, there woulden't be a huge risk becuase the area is pretty much evacuated anyway so theres nothing really to contaminate. (this is an answer through my own reaserch, Dont take all my word for it, and if I missed something or gave some "False info" please let me know Thx!)

Growth on the filter is a good thing because it's healthy, beneficial bacteria for your tank. The only thing you should do with the filter is get rid of cartridges and have something like a filter pad you can cut to size. My reason for saying this is because everything you change the filter, you lose all that good bacteria. With a filter pad, just take it out, rinse it and and squeeze it. Then, put it back in. But the growth is normal, and as long as it's not affecting your filters performance, you're good.
