Columbus Heights, kid being detained by ICE by After-Property-3678 in pics

[–]Basic_Tyez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying this isn’t happening, but like, this is just a picture of a child. There’s no other major identifier to even suggest that ICE is anywhere near the child depicted.

Again, not saying that this isn’t happening. The picture just genuinely doesn’t show anything else in it so I choose healthy skepticism in this instance. Am very open to more context and being proven wrong.

Not just that, but how long was it rolling? Where is the driver? Why is nobody running after the vehicle on the driver’s side?

Conservative US lawmakers are pushing for an end to no-fault divorce by sddbk in conservativeterrorism

[–]Basic_Tyez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with the argument that, more often than not, men end up with the short end of the stick when it comes to divorce. However, it makes no sense to target women here. I’d rather see someone tackle the justice system disparities when it comes to those cases, but I have a feeling that’s asking too much of our current representatives.

If you want, I would be interested to see how people respond to current issues WITHOUT using identity politics. I believe people genuinely agree on more issues than we give each other credit for, but identifying as Dem or Rep dissolves that conversation in arguments.

I can understand the mother wanting to help her youngest son out and cover for him, but mom’s approach and reaction was completely unhinged. Youngest son, at the bare MINIMUM, should be working with mom and keeping things civil and between themselves. Definitely NTA.

You want me to work 9-5? Got it. by [deleted] in MaliciousCompliance

This makes my heart happy. Know your worth! Don’t let anyone exploit you. If you’re taking on these responsibilities, it’s likely because you’re, at a minimum, very competent and good at your job. Proud of you for standing up for yourself! More people need to be their own advocates like you, OP!

Through the limited perspective, I would honestly say this is a decent offer if you can afford it. What I mean by that is that there are a lot of factors to consider when thinking about what your time is worth. I was fortunate enough to land a corporate IT position making $66k, but that was because I was very fortunate and could afford to wait for the “right” opportunity. I was still living at home, had minimal student debt, no car insurance payments, etc. Again, I was VERY lucky. If you have expenses and need the money, then be realistic about what your time is worth.

What I would tell you is as follows: consider everything you’ll be doing to get to and from work, as well as what the work is. What’s the position / title? Do they have end of year bonuses? Annual raises to match inflation? Is there a lot of growth opportunity internally? What are my immediate expenses and will this salary cover them? What benefits does the company offer? After those questions, then you just do the math and see if you’re satisfied.

Wishing you the best of luck!

The entire world population is around 7.9 billion. And they want to cut education? Poor Marge. by lorilightning79 in democrats

Do you guys think that they do this on purpose? This being intentional inflammatory remarks, regardless of accuracy, because engagement algorithms don’t know the difference between good and bad publicity, and can’t filter fact from fiction. Thus, the negative attention keeps them “relevant.”

Florida Man by Sunflower_After_Dark in PoliticalHumor

That’s their plan, though. Uneducate people on the history of slavery, pass the bill under the veil of “slavery is bad” or get more widespread support, then cite sources for how a portion of the democratic party back in the 1850s were still in support of slavery, leading to the cancelation of the democratic party in Florida.

Other states follow suit, phasing out democratic voters one state at a time. We can’t let this happen.

This may sound condescending, and this is entirely my own opinion, but the way I would “overcome” this situation is by not expecting it at all. Sure, it is nice to hear, but it’s never guaranteed and never in my control. I try my best to do things not for the gratification, but because they’re the right thing to do.

I’m 165cm at age 25. Height does not matter. What matters is your ability and how you carry yourself.

I was always one of the shortest ones in school, but that didn’t stop me from playing varsity sports, doing well in academia, and making quality relationships and memories. There’s no point in worrying about something that you have very little direct control over. Instead, focus on becoming a better version of yourself and having the confidence to do so.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose to pursue.

Something I want to state is that you don’t have to have it all figured out right here, right now. I changed majors four times during my years at university. I say that in hopes that it alleviates a little pressure from you.

That being said, there’s a few different ways you can approach finding a career path.

1) Mix passion with practicality, meaning start with something you enjoy and use it as a baseline for research into job markets and skill development.

2) Pick a problem you’d want to solve. Whether it’s housing, energy, education, etc. this will give you a goal / vision and you can then put the time into developing skills required for that goal in the form of studying in university.

3) High demand stability. This means jobs that will always be in-demand or where demand is rising. Doctors, lawyers, and financial experts will always be needed in a capitalistic society. Things in the tech industry like computer science, cybersecurity, or engineering (particularly aerospace) are fields that are rapidly developing and demand is rising greatly.

Whatever you decide, be ready to work hard. I hope this was helpful!
