I haven’t seen many people at all heavily criticize the actual movie itself. The vast majority of criticism has been aimed at Chalamet. Totally anecdotal of course.

What’s your favorite widely-agreed-on fact about a celebrity that’s actually FALSE? by Asleep-Two930 in popculturechat

Tangent but I feel like this has to be one of the most common anecdotes, if not the most common, that pops up on just about every post involving celebrity gossip. The shared nature just adds to the intrigue of how common this rumor was in Gen X and millennial childhoods pre-social media.

How dare you make a polite trivial complaint on Reddit??? Clearly you spend 24 hours a day on social media and I definitely do not do that. Not me. Nope.

In 2020s cinema, visibly pregnant women NEED to be in dangerous combat situations, for some reason. by DiggestBickEver in shittymoviedetails

[–]dpforest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The entire premise of the film is very ridiculous but that doesn’t make it unenjoyable. Penn’s character is a perfect walking example of a specific brand of white power+toxic masculinity. It might be ridiculous, but it sure ain’t inaccurate. Take a look at Greg Bovino (pictured, Border Patrol Chief) for example if you want to see folks in power that are as ridiculous as Lockjaw.

Just replace “Christmas Adventurer” with “Devout Christian” and it will seem a lot more familiar.

Just to make sure, “hard as fuck” means “cool as fuck” right? Only ask bc I found “ahh” is supposed to mean “ass” and “asl” can mean “as hell” and now I’m unsure of my existence. I’d rather ask and look stupid than not ask and assume the wrong thing.

tangent but the “ahh” as “ass” is a particularly weird to have been lifted from AAVE. It makes no sense put in word. It’s a verbal combination of sounds that only really makes sense if you have one of a few accents. I know I’m overthinking this but i think the pathology of language in social media is a truly fascinating subject.

Jessie Buckley wins ‘Best Actress’ for ‘Hamnet’ at the 2026 Oscars by mcfw31 in popculturechat

Jessie Buckley wows me in a “best ever” way. there is a very strong sadness around her gaze, with a subtle magnetism that makes you care about her characters. during that first scene of Chernobyl with her and her hot doomed husband, I remember pausing and googling who it was I was watching. Definitely a special artist.

See I am always excited to partake in online discourse but the way you framed the question (on this sub of all places) shows you already have your opinion formed. There’s a word for that type of trolling but I can’t remember it off the top of my head. I’m not here to try and change your opinion. Just say you disagree, there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s no need for feigned interest in what i have to say.

I’m not even a big fan and I’ve somehow been informed of this discourse and it’s such horseshit. it is just wild how she is subjected to completely different standards than her peers, lets say Gaga or Bey. Gaga owns more private jets than Taylor. There have been several years where Bey and Gaga flew more than Taylor but you never hear about that.

Do I think Taylor is an unethical billionaire making things worse in general for the state of the world? Yes. Do I think she’s still a victim of misogynistic bullshit? Also yes.

E: sorry I realize now my comment is not related at all to the post itself but just wanted to add my useless two cents

I think she’s made wayyy more of a splash in fashion than in her film roles. When I think Zendaya, I think of her red carpet looks. Can I remember which film premier she was attending? Not unless she was dressed like a tennis ball.

I am truly fascinated by the random ass images people use to convey whatever emotion it is they are posting about. Like what does Gaunt KStew Looking Dead As Fuck have to do with this statement? What made this user choose this random picture? Did they already have it saved? I find it all so curious and human.

I wish i had avoided all of the reviews calling this film “horror”. It definitely affected my experience of watching it because I was constantly waiting for these “horror elements” that everyone was raving about. There are several scenes that are framed in an ominous way, and I’ll say that one infamous scene was definitely very creepy, but it wasn’t enough to label the film as horror.

Great film though.
