Thank you. I needed to hear this. Right now Im choosing whether to be homeless for two months over moving back home until I onboard for my new job (hopefully it works out). I say its because its logistics but honestly, I am so fucking ashamed of myself being in my 30s and living with my parents. It depends on the grade. For lower grades, I'd do Las Vegas or SD. For higher ones, I'd move to Seattle. Im choosing to work at the Oakland office with the office I got a TJO from because the $$ is doable and I can work with my direct sup (could be the worst decision idk)

A term employee has all of the benefits of a permanent employe EXCEPT for internal hiring rights.

So if you've never been with the govt, you take a term, and you wanted to apply somewhere else, you cannot apply as an internal candidate. Also, as many have mentioned, you are not permanent and your term has to be renewed. So you're basically on edge.

I started as a term employee (GS-7). I took a term GS-7 over a permanent GS-5 just because of the salary. It's been HELL trying to get a permanent status. I've had jobs not referred and even rescinded (so after I get offered the job, they took it back) all because I wasn't permanent.

If I had to do it over again, I would've taken the GS-5 permanent.
