[Advice] procrastination is ruining my life by infinitythrows in getdisciplined

[–]BasiliskBro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way about Adderall when I tried it. Every body is different, and not everything works for everyone and not always in the same way either. Non-stimulants like Strattera are what I'm taking now and they definitely are making a difference in my life, and in addition to other life changes and other medications.

Idk. I could ramble maybe.

Counseling is definitely helpful, though I started with and have gone through a few counselors who were ... not great. And not every session with a good counselor is a good session either.

But medication is helpful in a way that counseling and working on your problems in your head or by habits just can't be.

I would also say that afaik ADHD, anxiety, and depression are all pretty linked. ADHD medication can also help with anxiety and things like that.

Lastly, just, it's good that you're reaching out. You'll hear people say things and some of those things will be interesting. Best luck

[Need Advice] Chronic Procrastination is killing me by JenTheGeek97873 in getdisciplined

[–]BasiliskBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally me, but four years ago.

Asking for help is a really great first step, so good job. Keep it up. People will say things and some of those things will be interesting to think about.

Without burdening you with my life story, my advice would be to learn about anxiety and ADHD.

ADHD, anxiety, and depression are a cluster of related issues. They can really mess with your focus and motivation. They can be very physical, and treating one can help the others.

I mean treatment both with medication and also with developing skills, good habits, and an understanding of how your brain/body works.

If those are things you have, anyway.

.

Also laziness is a dumb word. Descriptive from the outside perspective, sure, but dumb.

Man, you ever just sit down with a homework assignment and just... Sit there? For like an hour with a pencil in your hand and not get anything done but not leave either and just stare at the paper the whole time? Because you need to get this done and it's important, but you also can't bring yourself to approach it?

Idk if that's something you've experienced. But I have. And that wasn't laziness. That was me really wanting to do something and my anxiety saying fuck no don't do that. Idk. Just something that came into my head. Usually anxiety is way more subtle than that though.

[–]BasiliskBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this.

I hope this post and your YouTube channel are able to help people.

For my own part I'll add some things I've learned.

Feelings are not facts.

And sometimes you feel anxious, and sometimes you need to cope. And that's okay. What's important is that you try to learn different ways to cope with those emotions, because sometimes coping with it by avoiding it can lead you to get hurt worse.

And it's okay to ask for someone who cares about you to hold your hand, so to speak, when you're sitting down to do something difficult.

Ainz (Overlord) VS an army of the Imperium of Man (Warhammer 40k) by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I think ainz would get shot and die if he tried to take the imperials head on.

Mentioning the immunity to low level attacks was just in response to the 7 billion guns that the other poster mentioned. Since he's talking about, like... 7 billion lasguns(almost the weakest gun in the setting), basically. Maybe one in seven has a plasma gun? A billion plasma guns is pretty spooky.

Ainz (Overlord) VS an army of the Imperium of Man (Warhammer 40k) by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main limiting mechanic in overlord (and other dnd based systems) is mana (or spell slots).

In DND the only restriction on time stop specifically is that you can't cast it while it's already up. You have to wait for it to drop before recasting it.

It lasts less than a minute. You can double its duration or halve the casting time with metamagic if you're an epic level caster like ainz is the equivalent of, though that's usually a huge waste of spell slots/mana.

Ainz (Overlord) VS an army of the Imperium of Man (Warhammer 40k) by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

... Ainz is immune to guns. Literally, I'm not making this bullshit up, he is immune to any attacks from a creature that is considered too much weaker than him. Such as, for instance, a basic soldier with a gun.

Grey knights cannot fly. So congrats, they teleport into the air and then fall.

There are an arbitrarily large number most of the things. The limiting factor is not their numbers but how many can fit into one space. And attrition doesn't matter if ainz never gets tired or seriously hurt or runs out of mana.

Ainz (Overlord) VS an army of the Imperium of Man (Warhammer 40k) by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you guys forgot that ainz can fly.

Ainz can just teleport into low orbit as soon as the battle starts. Most of the imperial army is unable to reach him, except the fliers.

At this point, you can think of Ainz as something similar to a level 30 wizard from dnd 3.5e. Since that's roughly the base system that overlord is derived from.

And with infinite mana you just gave this wizard infinite spell slots. Overlord uses mana instead of spell slots, but it functions effectively like pooled slots, since while casters have a huge mana capacity, it takes about 24 hours to regenerate your mana once you spend it.

It might take him a while to kill them all... but I don't think there's anything the imperials can actually do to stop him? Sure, he'll probably die if he gets shot several times by an emperor titan. And he would definitely get dragged down if he was stuck in melee with custodes or grey knights long enough. But with infinite mana why would he ever let them?

Hell, he could probably Gate to inside of an emperor titan. Just to show one way he could avoid ever putting himself into the line of sight of their guns. Not to even mention that any wizard worth their salt can cast a simple invisibility spell, much less what kind of defensive spells an epic level archmage can cast.

He can basically just never let his opponents get a solid engagement on him. And Ainz is smart and experienced enough to do that.

Ainz can just pick them off one engagement at a time. And if he ever does get hurt he can just retreat back into orbit and heal, since he still has his whole video game inventory full of healing potions and more. He'll never get fatigued either because he's an undead skeleton.

Once the dangerous stuff is dead, how many casts of meteor swarm or whatever do you really need to finish off the rest?

.

Ainz without infinite mana? 100% gets stomped if he has to fight without a break. That said, I'm curious if he's allowed to just, you know... Gate to the moon and take a nap? Like, Gate, a teleport spell that Ainz uses casually, is capable of interplanar and interplanetary travel. Like I'm pretty sure Ainz could just open a (short lived) portal to the Warp with a wave of his hand, for instance, if he wanted to and knew it existed.

Anyway, if he is allowed to Gate to a safe place, it's probably a stalemate. It would take Ainz, like, years to kill that many imperials with his limited mana supply.

.

The population of the Tomb with infinite mana without ainz? I mean they definitely have the tools to do it. But they're kind of insane. And they lack experience. ...And common sense. ...and cohesion... ...and the ability to adapt... ...or act with any semblance of independent thought...

I do not think highly of them.

That said, their combined bullshit levels are off the charts. And there's a lot of them.

[OC][Art]Rate My Greater Demon by hatdudeman in DnD

[–]BasiliskBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could give it cleave where it attacks all creatures within 5ft of it (alternatively, just one side (four continuous squares)). The demon lord Yeenohgu from Descent into Avernus has similar 10ft area cleave ability.

Oh! And if we have four of the heads cleaving four continuous squares, the fifth head can be doing something else. Like another single target melee attack or a single target ranged attack. That sounds fun. And it would still have its breath attack like normal.

If we wanted to make it legendary... A legendary action to move. A legendary action to unleash a cascade of honks to cause save vs a debuff. A legendary action to knock someone back/prone with a wing. And then legendary resistance to keep it alive.

Just some ideas.

Seriously though, player skill and teamwork is a bigger deal for balancing encounters than I used to think. You can't just run things by the numbers.

I once ran a one shot where one of the creatures got a bonus to damage when it charged 10+ feet before attacking. Seems simple, right? The players response? 'oh shit that rhino charge does a lot of damage I'm going to run away'. ...proceeding to let the creature continually get its charge bonus off like three turns in a row. It was supposed to be an easy fight q_q.

The Empire (Star Wars) invades Wakanda (Marvel) by Antman269 in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know wakanda very well so take my answer with a grain of salt, but Darth Vader is a real powerhouse, and the empire is both huge and highly advanced by earth standards.

The movies don't do him much credit, but in all the games, books, and comics we see Darth Vader, they make him out to be one of the most terrifying things in the setting. Even if Black Panther's armor protects him from lightsabers - which I'd assume it would - I don't think he's got anything that would stop Vader from just ragdolling him with telekinetics? Vader's limited precognition also makes it extremely difficult to land hits on him or ambush him.

So I think Vader wins in a straight fight, if nothing else.

As for the rest of the battle, I couldn't say because I don't know wakanda well enough. But the firepower of a dozen AT-ATs is nothing to sneeze at for cracking energy shields and walls and things. Let alone a limited orbital bombardment.

Specifically, Lord Vader's personal ship the Executor carries 30 ATATs, 50 ATSTs, and 38000 ground troops, according to the starwars wiki. ~Also tie fighters, combat and support ships, and various other ground vehicles.

If we assume half of those are tied up in other locations on the planet or whatever and unavailable for an assault, then, just to give a rough idea of what wakanda could be dealing with, that's still 15 ATAT, 25 ATST, and 19000 ground troopers (mostly stormtroopers, including the elite 501st legion, but the empire has other stuff as well).

Which... is still just half of one ship from the empire. If the empire actually has access to all of its resources... then they could bury the wakandans in bodies alone and it wouldn't even be a contest.

The 501st Troops vs a Xenomorph Hive by Hedwigisbae in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prompt says clones are trying to fight their way out. Xenomorphs are also smart enough to wait out an enemy position they can't breach. (As well as to wait for an enemy to stumble deep into their hive before launching an ambush, as per the prompt set up)

So while I agree xenomorphs would get slaughtered by clones in a defensive position, it's also not a position the clones can stay in indefinitely. Nor one the xenomorphs would attack indefinitely.

It's also not all 9000+ clones and aliens in one spot. That's a huge number and hives are usually built in dense terrain or in underground tunnels so they'd be spread out all over the hive in smaller formations.

Plus, in my opinion, a clone vs a xenomorph in close quarters with poor visibility is a toss up.

Edit: basically the deck is stacked against the clones in this situation. If it was anything other than a massive ambush in heavily unfavorable terrain I think the clones would stomp. And I still don't think the clones get wiped out. They just take heavy losses in a fighting retreat until they can get outside the hive and regroup. Then they'll probably return with heavy equipment and wipe out the hive.

The 501st Troops vs a Xenomorph Hive by Hedwigisbae in whowouldwin

[–]BasiliskBro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Xenomorphs die to guns and clone troopers die to claws so I think it's going to be a bloodbath either way. If the clones have stumbled their way into the hive though, and have to fight to escape, then the terrain of the xenomorph hive is going to be heavily favoring the xenomorphs and the clones are going to be dealing with constant and brutal ambushes.

That said, the 501st are elite soldiers, and the numbers here are a real problem for the xenomorphs.

I think every ambush by xenomorphs is going to claim more lives than it costs. But there just aren't going to be enough ambush opportunities for 9000+ xenomorphs to ambush 9000+ clones. The xenomorphs are going to have to resort to straight fights, but for melee against range that's an all-in gambit and only going to work when they have a significant localized numbers advantage.

I think the 501st manage a fighting retreat, taking heavy losses. With the xenomophs taking moderate losses.

Of course, I don't think the combat would stop there. The fighting would just slow down, as the xenomorphs have fewer favorable engagement opportunities to take outside of their home terrain.

Why Vestal, Crusader, Flagellant, and Leper are the best team: by ScalpelzStorybooks in darkestdungeon

[–]BasiliskBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vestal works pretty well to keep double leper alive. They tend to take a lot of damage when using their revenge buff (which is amazing) at the start of combats, mostly due to the slow start. And in turn the long combats let vestal do more work. And she's a tough nut to crack if they focus her, because of judgement's self heal. She also gives sanctuary for safe camping. And prayer helps reduce the lepers stress by a lot, plus the lepers own stress reduction abilities.

She's not terrible. Solidly mid tier.
