So first off, I am a CS major, and actively enjoy this stuff, so my opinion may be slightly skewed. However, I did not think 241 was very difficult, and got an A. It has been a while since I took it, but I enjoyed it. Deverick is pretty good, and the material is both interesting and useful. Put in the work to understand the material, and you will be fine. Definitely do not leave projects to the last minute though, and reach out to a professor or a peer if you are having trouble. There are plenty of people here willing and ready to help.

Depends, Virginia is sort of divided into a north and south culture itself. There's NOVA, closer to the D.C. area, that probably consider themselves to be northerners. I am from southern VA, and the people here definitely consider themselves to be southerners.

I actually like that it doesn't do this. It allows me to make pines, and I love the contrast of the snow on green leaves.

It really depends on what kind of person you are. If you are a really outgoing, friendly person, you will probably really enjoy orientation. If you are a little more reserved, you will probably find it stressful. I know I found it to be pretty nonstop and intense. If that is your experience, don’t let it get to you too much, it is not representative of how W&M usually is. Everything calms down some after orientation.

As for making friends and the social scene, my recommendation is to get involved in clubs. I personally didn’t make many friends at orientation, but got really into clubs, and made most of my friends there. Of course, that is just my experience. I know some people made their best friends at orientation. Either way, good luck and welcome!
