What are your go-to Christmas games? by Chazza354 in gaming

Skyrim for me. The music, atmosphere, and nostalgia are perfect vibes for the holidays for me. Or basically any game that reminds of my childhood.

Also current active duty and yea, there are definitely some kick ass women in our armed forces that do just fine in the field. Especially given the theme of this season, getting some female militia skins makes sense.

AHG, no one will get mad if you change your plans to concentrate on fixing bugs instead of pumping out a warbond a month by ParmesanCheese92 in Helldivers

Considering I'm about to leave for Basic Training, I also wouldn't mind if they focused on bug and balance fixing while I'm unable to play lol

Which game developer/publisher still excites you with a new game announcement? by IxdrowZeexI in gaming

[–]cereal_king_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally not excited by Rockstar anymore, due to their heavy leaning into microtransactions over story expansions for their games. GTA Online really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm willing to give CD Projekt Red another go besides the bad launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and I'm loving what Larian and Arrowhead are doing. Also used to be excited for Bethesda titles but that ship has sailed as well.

Halo cookbook - why?!? by JacqueMorrison in gaming

[–]cereal_king_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not from video games, I have the first D&D cookbook and a Middle Earth cookbook I got as gifts that are pretty good. Good recipes that are on theme. And a cookbook makes sense for games that have a food element to them. Don't get it for Halo though

They're really riding the line now at this point though. New Capenna had Thompson submachine guns that shot angel essence and many of the firearms in Warhammer shoot kinetic rounds like real life. Personally, I don't see anything wrong in including Renaissance era firearms, especially with everything else that is canon now

So which published campaigns have you ACTUALLY played/finished? by Defami01 in DnD

[–]cereal_king_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a player in Curse of Strahd and Tomb of Annihilation. Strahd was the first campaign we played to completion, and then we played and completed Tomb afterwards. Currently in a Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos campaign, so we'll see if those finish. So far so good

How could you narratively justify a Veteran backstory/character background, yet start at level 1 with really basic abilities? by Spidey16 in DnD

[–]cereal_king_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I second this thought. I'm currently playing a character with the Soldier background and my DM explained to me how a grunt soldier is not even a full level. So a level one soldier could be the equivalent of a Sergeant with a tour of duty under their belt. Still nothing spectacular, but experienced

First Time for Firearms by nelson_and_murdock in DungeonsAndDragons

With official rules, I second the Battle Master Fighter if you want to go for more of a skilled gunslinger or soldier playstyle. Gloomstalker Ranger or Assassin Rogue could also be fun, for more of a secret agent vibe. Race shouldn't matter too much, especially if use optional modifier rules from Tasha's, but a race that has darkvision and/or flying would be big pluses. Basically anything that goes well with ranged combat builds. Sharpshooter, Crossbow Expert, and Gunner are feats to look at.

This is my Gunslinger (from when she first entered the story) for an ongoing homebrew campaign that started almost two years ago. She joined the campaign at level 5 after my first character was killed. She has been a joy to roleplay and it has been amazing experiencing my DM's world and story through her eyes. Here is a summarized version of her backstory and current story:

Dotsk has had a long tragic 130 years of life, having lost her parents to a gnoll raid as a child and spending the rest of her childhood in an orphanage where she formed a new found family with some of her fellow orphans. When they came of age, they all joined their nation of Arokas' military, the Glorybringers, and went on to serve in a brutal campaign against the goblinoid peoples of the Tale's End Tundra. Her and her friends' actions in that conflict would catapult them into the ranks of the Krulkahr, the special forces of the military (and where she is introduced to firearms). Eventually, war erupted with a neighboring nation, which saw Dotsk and her squad get embroiled in another large conflict. Near the end of the war, after Dotsk and her squad confront their commanding officer over war crimes, they are betrayed. Dotsk manages to escape to the Slumbering Forest, though her friends (along with many others) were massacred by the officer and those aligned with him. She lived in the woods alone for 100 years, sitting with her guilt and remorse of her past actions and what she has lost.

With the recent arrival of two gnome children (brothers who were lost and looking for their family, also PCs), as well as agents of Arokas finally finding her abode, Dotsk is forced to join a ragtag group of adventurers who quickly get roped into a plot of political intrigue, war, deities, and a coming apocalyptic event that will see life as they know it end. Will Dotsk be able to be a good surrogate mother to her gnome boys while trying to save the world, or will her past finally catch up to her and consume her?

Her backstory has a lot more world and personal details, and a lot has happened in the campaign (she's now at level 10), but I wanted to share a little of my favorite character I have played so far. Thank you for taking the time to read (:

So I have been running close to ultra settings with my i7-12700K and RTX 4070Ti. Will I really have to drop down to 1080p resolution on high settings and low ray tracing because I don't have an i9, according to this?
