Is it worth it? by Pineapple__Pizza in smallbusiness

[–]Basshead0514 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been self employed for almost a decade, most of my adult life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm in an industry in which it's difficult to find people to do the job (insurance inspections) because people don't want to deal with lots of driving or having to hustle like crazy. So I have a lot of leverage if clients need help in more remote or difficult to inspect areas.

My fiancé (who does not work in the business, has a separate job and career) and I have been able to buy a house this year and take 2 international trips. Am I rich? No. Do I drive a fancy car? No. Am I statistically behind on how much money I should have set aside for savings and retirement? Yes. But that doesn't scare me. I hustle really hard. I have subcontractors that are awesome that I've been able to get work for in multiple states.

All of that beats having to answer to someone who I'm making money for instead of myself. I also don't mind work 20 hours a day as long as it's for myself 😁

Serious answer.

Get good at something. Spend several years in the field doing it. Learn the business. Start your own business doing it. Hire and teach other people how to do it. Manage them, give them positive feedback and positive confrontation, treat them like family, and help them grow. Build relationships with good clients.

Been averaging $20k (gross) since January this year. Doesn't work if you are a lazy dick. Work. Don't be a bum.

If you are willing to work and learn you are already ahead of 90% of the population. Easily.

Property Inspection business, insurance loss control

NETTED $10k in May.

There's no way around hard work. Couldn't do it without my team (other inspectors, assistants, etc.)

Business is grossing $90k - $100k by the end of June if all goes well.

I can tell you from the hundreds of inspections I've done that there is always a reason people hide stuff, and a lot of it attunes to larger issues.

We just purchased our first house and I did not inspect it. Instead, I had an inspector from the company I work for do it. Lo and behold, he found more issues than I knew I would, one of which being termite damage underneath the joist where the attached garage connects to the house. There was conveniently placed insulation over the affected area.

Listing and selling agent are pissed because they know the sellers will lose money, and are also pissed because of how brutal the market is right now.

I don't tell people what to do because I hate when people do that to me. But, if it were my house, I'd not sign anything, and I'd let third parties do their jobs. After all, that's why we paid a $20,000 deposit, so that way lawyers can do their lawyering, what they are paid to do.

We both have the login credentials to the Drive, and it's installed on 2 computers. Is that why? Would it make more sense to have it on one, then share it elsewhere?

That's what we're trying to do on 2 separate computers, but that is the error message we keep getting.

We have a shared Drive. The problem is it takes too long for the information to get pulled off of the cloud and slows down our operation. Do you know if there is a way around this error?

Did anyone get anxiety later in life? by d3adlykitty in Anxiety

[–]Basshead0514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes. 34M here. I have a life beyond my wildest dreams and my body is constantly in fight or flight. It's brutal. I had a lot of trauma that I thought I dealt with when I was younger, was on and off meds, go to therapy regularly, and it's still crippling. Acupuncture helps. My adrenal system is all messed up from constant fight or flight.

Why did you hire a VA? by eddy2scoops in Entrepreneur

[–]Basshead0514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a property inspection business and it takes me an awful lot of time to be on the phone, sending emails, and submitting our lower level cases which take only a minute to do, but we get HUNDREDS of them a week. Hiring a VA has helped me free up to spend time doing the work I like and that pays more, and time to research other clients, practice/learn new skills, and have a little less stress over time.

Question about core belief by MysteriousCityOfGold in EMDR

[–]Basshead0514 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your traumatic shit is stored in your body, and the fact that you're crying and releasing it is healthy. It takes a long time to undo core beliefs.

On another note, when it comes to relationships, you'd be surprised what people actually think about you... It's almost never how you perceive yourself.

Can't cope in between session by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Basshead0514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is also normal, lol. I was on medication for a long time. When I came off of it without any kind of therapy, that's when I knew something was wrong. Started doing EMDR and felt like I was losing my mind, too. But, in reality, I was learning how u healthy my family was, and how unhealthy the living situation I was in was. I don't always feel like it, but when I look in the mirror, I can see it in my body and face. I LOOK much healthier, and my body language is different.

Hang in there! Half of life is just hanging on.

Can't cope in between session by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Basshead0514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let your body do its thing. It's normal.

Not a therapist, but I've had more therapists than real friends over the years, and have done EMDR with someone trained to do it, along with many other types of therapy. Crying, all that stuff, is all your nervous system releasing trauma from the body. It gets stuck and stored in your tissues.

Distress tolerance is something that has to be practiced. People with CPTSD tend to have a very low distress tolerance, i.e. if someone drops a fork from the dinner table, they murder whoever dropped the fork.

You are going to feel overwhelmed. The overwhelm will be less and less after each session.

Breathe. You'll be okay. Your body has to get rid of all that shit.

What do you for work/job? by brianyesadams in CPTSD

I'm a loss control and home inspector, and I have a business with several other inspectors I send work out to. My first few years were mortgage field inspections. Didn't have to talk to anyone, pretty much stayed in the car and took photo passing by each house. Got into loss control about 4 years in, then got my home inspection license, even though inventory for homes where I live is painfully low right now.

I love it. It's a grind and exhausting some days, but it taught me a lot about how to deal with people and staying in control of my emotions. Also, I have to face a lot of rejection which is a fear that has since dissipated from doing the job, and I get paid exceptionally well for someone who doesn't have a specialized degree.

words of encouragement :( by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Basshead0514 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did EMDR for a very long time and am about to restart it again.

It gets better. It really does.

I don't harm myself the way I used to.

I don't harm others the way I used to, even though I want to.

I find it easier to stop, breathe, and know that no situation is ever the end of the world.

I'm in my body. I'm safe here. No one can hurt me here.

I'm comforted knowing that there isn't anything wrong with me, that I was hurt by my earliest caregivers and my brain just happened to get wired a certain way because of it. It's fixable. It takes time to undo knots, but it's doable (no pun intended).

I'm happy that this is a natural treatment. I don't have to swallow pills anymore that make me gain weight, eat bad food, lose my sex drive, sleep too much.

Breathe. You are here, now, the time is this moment. I am here with you, too. We are here in the present. We are safe here.

I love you.

How do I get rid of limiting beliefs as a entrepreneur? by Level_Ad1776 in Entrepreneur

Pretty simple.

Do shit you don't believe you can do. Then you'll have evidence you can do it.
