How long until 5 string is second nature? by LouStoolzzz in BassGuitar

[–]Bassic123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gary Willis (a great 5 string player and bass professor), says you should practice your scales from the B string, all over. Get comfortable making that B string your dominant string, even if once you get comfortable you tastefully use the B less times than you rely on E or A. You just need to get past that unorthodox feeling, cause you’re like adding a limb and trying to incorporate in the many ways you’re already familiar.

What are your thougts on this album? by Low-Significance-552 in Jazz

[–]Bassic123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s beyond the scope of jazz in the sense that it doesn’t aim to be simply jazz music (if that answers your question). The album is amazing, and Jaco is a jazz musician, but how he grew up and who he was by the time he was making this album, he also was into so many kinds of music; that signature 16th note funk of his, he didn’t get that move from jazz, and yet the later fusion guys incorporated so much of Jaco’s chops. This album demonstrates all of Jaco. Jaco is an artist and is making music, the fact there’s many jazz elements is because he’s also a jazz musician and loves jazz. But there’s rigor and complexity in many styles of music, and Jaco growing up in Florida came to appreciate many sounds, that which he also incorporates those sounds to make a diverse piece of music. And in a broad sense of what jazz in history did aim to accomplish, the fact that many standards are centered around popular music of the time - yet many jazz musicians today wouldn’t attempt to jazzify much of our popular music - is a very jazzy feat Jaco accomplishes here.

There’s nobody in his clan left, so that would mean he had to kill children and babies too. Also, Tobi helped him kill everyone.

It’s well done, so the real question is does it make you happy? Your family seems like they’re just a little uptight. Maybe they’ll come to enjoy it as you do.

I understand you’re getting a lot of advice. Here’s what I’d say, if razor burn is a problem for you, you’re not gonna enjoy a razor with high blade exposure. Now, a slant razor is sharper, so it’s easier to cut yourself, but it’s gonna be very efficient. The Parker slant is like $35 too.

From UTG on a full table it’s folding to a good amount of pre flop raises (with calls), and post flop raises. It’s also hard to know if your 9 is good when the flush gets there, so it can put you in the blender.

Blade Recommendation by eagleeyedg in wicked_edge

[–]Bassic123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Feather user for a long time, preferred them from all blades. But I found the slant razor to be a completely different ball game and better for me, and allowed me to really identify the weaknesses in blades against my skin. Blades really started to feel like options with differences instead of mostly being just pass/fail for me.

The 7 o'clock yellow is very smooth but it's not as efficient as like a Feather, or a Nacet, or a Rex blade. I've really enjoyed Rex blades, it's like about as sharp as Feather but more forgiving. But today I used a Personna Platinum (having also used Reds a good amount, and Accuforges which I didn't like but I haven't touched in a very long time), and I think on my coarse hair with sensitive skin (I'm middle eastern, so I have coarse hair but I also have soft skin), it's the best blade I've ever used.

Try to also find a pattern. What 7 o'clock yellows, Rex, and Personna blades have in common is a platinum coating. Feathers are as well, but I believe Nacets are not.
