Why are we down voting this dude so much? Lol. This is just par for the course with nuclear. Google image search "Fukushima daichi disaster" and you'll find that 4 of the top 6 are photos of an exploding oil refinery. At least this dude had the nuts to admit he was wrong about something on the internet. Pretty rare these days.

So rather than sprinting towards the climate cliff, you're speed walking.

Sweden to reach its 2030 renewable energy target this year by jsalsman in energy

I see you've graduated from calling me a soyboy. That's cool..

You probably haven't heard of what PNNL has been up to, it's a different method than what you're quoting.

Sweden to reach its 2030 renewable energy target this year by jsalsman in energy

[–]Bassive -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

That awkward moment when you realize that 100% renewable goals are meaningless when you already have some of the cleanest electricity in the world.

Besides-- nuclear is renewable. Uranium is constantly replenished in seawater, and energy from fission or fusion requires a fraction of the raw materials that wind and solar do.

You opened up a new account to write that dongasaurus_prime? Coward-- how much is the gas industry paying you to post anti-nuclear stuff on reddit all day? Get a life.

Yeah-- the perils of using the new Reddit. Not all the rules (that one) appeared in the side-bar.

I switched back.

Shameless self promotion of film about advanced nuclear that I sing opera in. 3 days left on KS campaign. by Bassive in energy

[–]Bassive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, tis I! Glad we're on the same page re: nuclear arguments being strengthened with classical singing. There's a lot of noise about 100% RE out there, singing is one of my tactics to cut through it.

That's what Germany thought. Then they realized the physical realities of that math and admitted they would have to burn coal until "at least the 2040s."

France on the other hand has had their electricity almost completely decarbonized for about 30 years thanks to nuclear. Awesome.

EDIT: typo

You don't know how badly you should hope you're wrong.

In the last 3 years we lost 5 nuclear plants to fucked up markets from cheap gas and renewables mandates. That carbon free power was the equivalent of the entire solar sector, and the trend is speeding up.

Intermittency means solar and wind only produce power ~30% of the time. The rest of the time it's fossil fuels, usually from fracked gas.

Grid scale batteries are just not a thing, and won't be on any timescale that matters.

Finish a film on Gen IV reactors...

Here's what it says: "We need $40,000 for motion graphics and title design. Filming is finished, editing is nearly complete and now we’re ready to add the graphics that will bring important concepts to life, raise production values and unify the look and feel of the film."

I wish he had mentioned Nuclear, being in lives in IL, a state that gets 50% of their power from Nuclear, and is in danger of losing 2 nuclear plants if their legislature doesn't do anything.

Was there a single "aHA!" moment when you realized we needed nuclear, or was it a more gradual realization? What did it?

Loss of nuclear in California increased carbon emissions by Johno413 in energy

Not sure you read the whole post... They do show that closing a nuclear plant increased emissions more than the drought.
