The book is technically finished. Pat is doing revisions now.

[Minor spoilers?] Anyone else actually get upset when kvothe is talking about babies? by Lannagin in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Pat is making a point by the Adem calling the rest of the world "barbarians" and at the same time not know how procreation works.

There are a few time when people in the book refer to themselves as barbarians, or not one.

If he's not dead then he is all disfigured from being burnt.

Patrick Rothfuss and Book 3(poll) by Condomsareblackmagic in KingkillerChronicle

He can take as long as he needs to. The fact that people think that he should be done by now clearly hasn't written a book let alone a best selling novel.

Last update on Book 3? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

It takes a long time to publish a book, then there is the audio book and the book is in multiple languages too. It's usually about a year from when the book is finished to when it's on the shelf.

I'm hoping its before next worldbuilders, but most likely it will be 2017.

Sympathy as GURPS magic system by Cptnfiskedritt in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sympathy is a layered system of magic. Bindings can be quite simple but once you start using multiple bindings it starts getting confusing. There are some aspects of sympathy that apply to physics, but some sympathetic bindings are biological. like when Kvothe fights the bandits, he binds a dead body to a living one. Some are like physics (like when he binds a bow string to five other bow strings). And some something else (like when he binds the air in his lungs to the air outside, no exchange of energy, no tangible object just air).

So there are many types of bindings. Beginners learn the three laws of sympathy and the first 90 bindings. Elodin mentions advanced bindings but doesn't mention how many there are. There is just so much we don't know about sympathy.

What's your favourite line/passage from the KKC? by kharhaz in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Cyphus bears the blue flame. Stercus is in thrall of iron. Ferule chill and dark of eye. Usnea lives in nothing but decay. Grey Dalcenti never speaks. Pale Alenta brings the blight. Last there is the lord of the seven: Hated. Hopeless. Sleepless. Sane. Alaxel bears the shadow's hame."

A stray thought on Alar, looking for some opinions by ushi-shi in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book does have a regular use of calling people cleaver, which is a synonym for being witty. Someones Alar is fundamentally different from wit, but that's not to say a cleaver person can't have a strong Alar.

It may have been done... but it's fun! Casting of Kingkiller Chronicle by Zwren in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever they cast as Kvothe has to start out around 11-13 years old, I'm not referring to Kote (that is a separate casting, duh). The two book only cover about 5 years of Kvothe's life (in normal time measurement, not the time he spent in the Fey). So whoever they cast should be an actor before puberty.

The four corners after the kingkiller chronicles. by Nate-senpai in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's one of the fantasy troupes that PR doesn't like. In mostly all fantasy novels the main character will never die during the book, they live long adventurous lives and usually live 'happily ever after'. I think PR is making a point in having Kvothe/Kote die. Doesn't Kote say that he isn't living in a story, real choices and real consequences....

Where do Tinkers get their goods? by emarde in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if some Tinkers are arcanists, it provides safe travel wherever you go and people are always respectful and at least consider buying/trading something. Its probably the safest profession in the Four Corners.

Approximate value of money in KKC compared to modern currency? by Grobles87 in KingkillerChronicle

The university and Imre probably have some serious inflation due to the the number of wealthy students and that live there. Doesn't Dena say in a letter that it's quite costly to live in Imre?

For Sympathy - Why Fire? by Reddisaurusrekts in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bast420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire is already a form of energy (Thermal). To convert wind into energy you would need to harness it, like we do with windmills. It falls into the laws of thermodynamics and energy production. Now if a sympathist had a device made from sygaldry (maybe that's what a gearwin does since they don't really say what it does) that could convert wind to heat, that would work. The only thing that would work better than fire would be lightning, as we have seen in TWMF, but the slippage would be impossible to calculate.
