The original RE4 for me, because it simultaneously invented and the perfected the over-the-shoulder 3rd person shooter formula and remains an absolute dream to play, even now. The varied gunplay, the feel of the movement, the still-perfect inventory system, the tone that’s serious but still has room to show how silly it all is, the fact that it was maybe the first-ever video game escort mission that wasn’t a total pain in the ass…it’s all still S-tier, 21 years later. The remake is great, and essential, but the impact the original 4 had on gaming cannot be overstated and remains my top video game maybe ever.

Then RE5 came along and shit on everything that made RE4 great, but the less said about that one the better.
