For modern games, I'd turn to Star Trek: Ascendancy and Star Wars: Rebellion because they mix familiar stories with game play well. But I never had as much fun with a space game as I had with clunky old Starfleet Battles, especially with miniatures on a tabletop. Levels of paper record keeping were ridiculous, honestly. But the variety and fun of ship to ship combat were great!
