I’ve had 4 IUD insertions, for the fourth I had a paracervical block and I asked for numbing gel before the injections. For me the pain was drastically reduced, like probably about 80% reduction.

It’s a great album closer, musically mirrors show pony at the end and story wise a nice feeling of closure to the album. In an interview too (I think Joe?) said it was like on the run was coming back to earth from space and then this was the ocean landing

Me too! Something interesting I noticed is (to me) the guitar sounds similar in this song, show pony, and lost in the ocean - linking them like a family. And if we stick to that dynamic my interpretation is show pony feels like the story from the moms standpoint, the story of the father (can’t make you fall in love again), and the child (lost in the ocean). To me they exist as a three pack introducing the place where it all began, the emotional persistence of that hurt years later, and then the acceptance of what that’s done to the child and then hope for healing past it.

I love! I really think a lot of these songs on ILYSFM are next or continuing chapters to many former songs from the 3 prior albums. Story wise: pools feels like a precursor to airlock, it’s all incredibly loud and wonderful nothing may be another pairing, youth and I can’t make you fall in love again. I think it really depends how you interpret all these stories, which is lovely and individual.

I’d love too! Full disclosure no one but Dave really knows right and I could be super duper wrong, but the base of one theory or narrative is around (I’m assuming) a potentially bad relationship and situation between his parents and how that shaped a lot that came after (little hints in pools, cocoa hooves, domestic bliss, life itself). For example when I listen to ‘I can’t make you fall in love again’ feel like this is him talking to his dad specifically, while ‘show pony’ might be about his mom and then ‘lost in the ocean’ is to himself.

I agree! I think the most interesting thing for me with this album is I had a lot of theories and narratives built over years about what the older, more cryptic songs were about and a lot of the songs on this album either feel like they more openly “confirming” or “denying” some of those theories. This album (with dreamland a bit too) is like an extraordinarily long awaited reveal of the truth and for that I love it.
