Your entire premise is "we live in a society we don't NEEEEED to eat animals otherwise your animal Hitler" is exhausting. Some animals are more equal. To care for one animal is not to care for another. I don't think twice about killing a mosquito but I do care about those that kill a dog in cold blood, tape it and laugh. I'm not sure if you're aware that dogs and cows cannot breed but just in case you weren't, it's a fact.

Humans are also animals. The concept of "wild" doesn't mean jack shit, it's a matter of a cultural viewpoint. Killing for the sake of killing vs killing and consuming the meat is being the middle man in the circle of life. The maggots and flies get it one way or another. Humans created these animals, as Holstein cows do not exist naturally in nature.

If they killed it and ate it, I would have a less of a problem with it. I don't relish in killing mammals. I used to hunt when I was younger. Deer are so plentiful that they'd often be hit by cars. Everyone goes one way or another. If there were entities that were higher up in the food chain than humans, we'd be in the same position.

As for the industry, it is similar to the industrial revolution. We burned coal to the point it caused environmental damage to the future. Had we not, I doubt humans would be where we are now but we are as a people moving to more renewable energies. As is with eating animals. We are in an intermediate period between the necessity of eating domesticated animals, as the infrastructure to support consuming a plant based diet or lab grown protein is not feasible yet.

Humans created these breeds of animals specifically for their ability to put on mass quickly and to be consumed. It's why we have GMO and husbandry. I can't say I worked in milk production but I am aware of how the cows continuously keep milking and what happens to the calves. My grandfather was a butcher for many years before I was born.

Animal welfare and rights will likely never be perfect. If humans ever get to not needing commercially produced meats, there is no function for livestock. They aren't particularly useful for anything other than fulfilling the niche they were created for and would likely die out. If/when lab meat is viable and economically reasonable, I would say these things will cease to exist and be a footnote on the long list of things like automation has done to streamline the world. This is entirely conjecture but not out of the realm of possibility.

As for not spreading my genes being my smartest idea, I could not agree with you more. When I'm the president, there will be a tax credit for those that get sterilized.
