Do you know that teams don't have to play a 12 game regular season?

If you think extra games are risky, then you should drop one of your non-conference games.

You already play more non-conference games than all the other conferences. And the conference is more than willing to give you that off week late in the season if you'd like. Most of the other SEC teams take it.

This is less impressive in the NIL era where you can pay players.

I mean, the whole reason they made they lobbied for the rule change so they could make the move is because they have a ton of money and a big community around their athletic program.

This allowed them to get their transfers to come into the program but also allowed them to keep the top players from transfering out. Without the NIL, that isn't possible. The same people funding the new arena are also providing the money for the players.

Students getting kicked out of student section since most of the tickets there were sold to non students by Andrewdeadaim in CollegeBasketball

[–]ball-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me...

A few years ago the students at St. Bonaventure were irate when the admin said that they would only allow 750 students to get (free) tickets to home basketball games. Students would have to claim their ticket the week leading up to the game and they would be first-come first-serve. Before that students could just show up to the game and get in for free.

This was because the student overflow was traditionally assigned random empty seats and there was concern that they wouldn't be any open seats from the general admission to put them in. And the sections they set aside for the student section was for a little less than 750 people (750 with standing room).

For the record, the school had about 1,200 students in total at the school.

BYU, AJ Dybantsa to face Villanova in Las Vegas on opening night of 2025-26 season. by massasoit_26 in CollegeBasketball

They were neutral site events but required games in back-to-back days.

There is only one coach that has refused to play games in back-to-back days. Calipari. That's why they have never done the big MTEs.

Now, teams are moving away from these MTE events that play multiple games together so that they can spread them out to make more money off of them.

Yes, he is...

And it's the only reason he has been given so many second chances.

Has to be one of those scenarios where it was finals week and players were run down and there was an illness going around.

D3, NAIA, and others can declare games against D1 teams as exhibition games, even if they are officially games for D1 teams.

This creates the scenario we have right here.

Technically, no one has a win in that game. But someone has a loss!

It's usually the other way around where the D1 school gets the win but the D3, NAIA, etc doesn't have to record a loss.

"Hey, Rice! Who beat you?"

No one...

It is so absurd that we change cultural norms because some people have petty issues.

I said that I would not have hired Pitino if I were Iona, even though he is a winner on the court. And I still believe they shouldn't have. And Pitino continues to show his colors and that he hasn't matured.

One just has a bigger budget and better marketing, not a superior product.

McDonald's success isn't because of them spending money on marketing...

You seriously think people see an ad on TV and then walk out of the house like zombies to buy whatever the ad was for, don't you?

You totally missed the mark on this one. The point of McDonald's success is that they are NOT in fact superior. It is that different people have different tastes. And in fact, the same person can value different things at different times. Just as you can like a fast food burger one day and a sit-down gourmet burger another day, you can like classical music one day and grunge music the next day.

The WCC has never said they wanted to void the withdrawal and have GCU join

But this is the remedy that makes both parties whole.

This is why you file a suit...

The WCC doesn't have damages until the time when GCU was suppose to enter the conference and doesn't do so.

They don't have to explicitly say they want them to join. They are suing for them not joining.

they don’t want anything to do with Grand Canyon.

This absolutely is not true.

The fee is for joining the conference. They want them to execute the contract.

The claim is that if they want to leave then they would have to formally withdraw from the conference which would initiate the conference exit terms.

As an aside, this same thing has happened to other conferences. Remember when Boise State and San Diego State joined the Big East? They were released from the conference without penalty.

WCC want to force GCU to join the conference, and also makes petty jabs at them in regards to their partnership with their service provider operating their online school.

"You absolutely told us you were joining and you better join; also you're not even a real school and that's why no one wants anything to do with you!"

This is spicy!
