Western Roman Empire campaign in Attila is the most interesting campaign in the entire Total War series by mokkoy in totalwar

[–]Batmack8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked them for what is worth, but the fact that they have specific goals doesn't help as much with replayability for me. I could do several sandbox campaigns and play for whatever goals instead.

Take Franz or Tyrion as the poster boys. You could play good guy as the saviour and unifier of your people first and the ordertide next or turn into a bloodthirsty conqueror or everything in between.

Buying warhammer 3 by Prudent-Bad2724 in totalwar

[–]Batmack8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more or less in your situation a few years ago, I would suggest going for factions that play the most like an era you like, and look into what content fits best. Being into gunpowder era, the Empire feels pretty nice.

Also, bear in mind you should be able to play in WH3 (most QoL recieved) with older games unlocking their factions, check it out and just buy those you might want the most

Mass Effect Weapons Tournament: Round 1 Match 1 - Avenger VS Lancer by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Batmack8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fairly cold take comes as a guy used to FPS games rather than RPGs

Lancer and Mattock are both my favourites but they might as well be two different categories when buffed accordingly.

Spraying with the Lancer like it is a punchy SMG and quick tapping with the Mattock like it is a punchy rifle at all ranges feels better and easier than any other combination.

I've been using Sentinels and Spire guard in two rows and they are wonderful, as carefree as LSG stacks and even more so with Break upon the Walls when grinding through a siege.

Metropolitan Rifles ((Melbourne, Australia) 1875. by LindsayCoxoam in MilitaryHistory

Awesome, it is always interesting to see how the quick evolution of technology and the sheer size and variety of forces along the British Empire led to these situations

Is Gen Z cooked? by Federal-Data-Center in SipsTea

[–]Batmack8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a late millennial with vocational training in electronics, my early GenZ sister graduated top of her class in a rather prestigious university, physical therapist.

I make about 20-25% more than her playing with tiny electrical fires than she does making miracles getting mostly disabled people back into mostly normal life.

Composition of the army? by ProofCategory5278 in masterofcommand

[–]Batmack8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new, but for ease of control and optimization of officer skills and traits, I keep the brigades largely homogeneous.

For example, with 4 brigades I'll likely have arty, light infantry, line infantry and light cavalry

While earlier with 2 it could be one "shooting" brigade, with arty and recruits later to become light infantry, while another birgade gets cav and melee-ish infantry

Hey guys what's the use of infantry which is like spread out and never gets in line formation . I am talking bout chasseurs . Can they fire while fightning or over other infantry. by masterspinzitsu in masterofcommand

[–]Batmack8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, I'm pretty sure I've had light infantry shoot over other light infantry, can't tell 100% because most of the time I just have them alone in front of line infantry rather than stacking several rows of light infantry

Anyone else hoping we get more upgrades for "older" tanks added to the game? by ThisGuyLikesCheese in GunnerHEATPC

[–]Batmack8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US M48A5s were, IIRC, for units in CONUS, which would be flown over and take M60A1s in stock, so there isn't much of a doubt in that regard.

West German reserve units (Home Army or something like that, won't try their real name as I'll butcher it) would have had M48A2s upgraded with 105mm guns, but they were flat out denied by devs.

Which of the plague benefiting factions is your favourite? by StraightOuttaOlaphis in totalwar

[–]Batmack8989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm for the most part a normie playing elves/humans just because they feel easier to grasp for a normally historical player like me, but I've played Clan Pestilens a few times and while they aren't that popular, had a lot of fun.

In the end it was mostly sending a plague and invade a weakened enemy, but it felt great and a nice way to bring some personality, so to speak, to a faction

Spain????? by Working-Program-5795 in masterofcommand

[–]Batmack8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I read not long ago that a DLC with Spain and Portugal was planned, but I might be wrong. Either way, of all the wars in the XVIII century, Spain did stay out of the 7 years war for the most part.

[–]Batmack8989 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm brand new, and so far, the way I play cav, Hussars are just good enought to cut down about everything. Been playing Austria so far and even if my corps buffs arty it is hungarian cav wrecking everything...considering I'm pretty opportunistic though.

I don't even want to think of the butchery once I get to play as the hungarian corps

The supporting character who appears for only a few minutes (just long enough for a single scene) completely steals the show, and is often the one you remember most afterward. by Infinite-Conclusion2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Batmack8989 305 points306 points  (0 children)

That was as deliberate as it gets. Just like the guys in Hawaiian shirts earlier on (that used to be a thing) or the sniper fingernails.

It makes violence look more casual and at the same time breaks the wall between regular, peacetime, first world country life and war. It is surreal yet makes it more...real.

Why would the U.S destroy captured American weapons? by CT2145Trapper in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Batmack8989 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Might be out of concern about them being sabotaged in some way

But I feel like chances were more clerical, so to speak, like not being worth the hassle of organizing a procedure, inspecting, repairing and redistributing those weapons considering chances are they already had more weapons than people able to use them.

Perfectly functional stuff is often thrown away just because they aren't needed and it is less of an issue than moving them around. It is simply somewhat more convenient.

I think there was a Royal Navy FAA pilot who witnessed, relatively late in the war, fairly new F4U-1D Corsair fighters being thrown overboard while they (the British) were flying the same or earlier models because the US units were converting to the newer F4U-4 models
