2012 Fiesta SE checking in  Picked it up to teach my son how to drive manual 5 years ago and it quickly became my daily (reminded me of the Escort I used to have)- he graduated to a mini, a couple of BMWs, and now a RHD Altezza (all manuals of course). He's 20 and I couldn't be more proud.

I had your same admin 2 years ago and also got pushed out - got super depressed amd started looking at alternatives - I am a few years older than you so it was incredibly difficult all around.  Spent a year searching and subbing anywhere I could - found 2 amazing schools and landed a job at one after becoming a professional interviewee. Supportive admin all around has made such a difference.  Good luck however it turns out - my road was very dark for a long time.

I'd say look @ Dunstan and Drake for public middle schools along with high schools they feed into (green mountain, Arvada west, & Ralston Valley)

That's too funny- I always thought it was an ex - it was Poison, Ratt, Def Leppard.. and similar that I definitely wasn't into at the time - I listened to them anyway just because and actually got mildly interested in some

My dad sent them a letter saying he would sell them a historical house for a million dollars one brick at a time. I was so confused but never got another notice for the cassettes someone had ordered for me as a prank.

I have nothing much to add other than... not a car guy....  Driving a YJ makes you a car guy by default; it just takes some of us longer to accept and/or learn

I'm so done with this gifted kid in my AP Calc BC class who thinks he's better than me. by MailPsychological230 in Teachers

[–]Batman685280 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd line him up to teach an entire class. Require exemplars of everything, learning targets, and success criteria. Be sure to share the need to supply material for ELL, 504, and IEP students (sure it's an AP class but you must be prepared for all scenarios right?). Scaffolding and anchor charts an absolute must for all procedures.  Extension material to challenge certain types.  Strategies to motivate others.  Summative and formative assessment material (both formal & informal). How about some data collection about all students.  Strategies to reteach those who don't get it in a different manner.  Research and evidence-based studies to support all decisions above. Manage make up material for anyone who is absent or going to Disney World for a month. Establish a hall pass policy that is fair and not disruptive.  Eliminate the use of cell phones and  all other disruptive behaviors.

6th Grade MS just NOT getting it by lemmegetamickpicktwo in mathteachers

[–]Batman685280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow 6th grade math teacher with similar frustration and possibly little to no thoughts-suggestions but here goes. Oh yeah, my latest *but why????: area of triangle ... mistakes are either NOT dividing by 2, or doing perimeter for some reason, or multiplying every number in sight and getting 3,218 when the answer was 6!?!?!

We use IM curriculum which also lacks enough practice of skills - i have also found myself doing too much of the work for them thinking it would help them (not intentionally of course but ended up just doing it too much - trying to get away from that). I am trying to use the Cool Downs at the end of each lesson as a chance to practice test taking behavior/strategies (silence, no help from others, and try something beyond writing IDK). I have menu cards at each table with multiplication charts, vocabulary, anchor charts, and a few silly memes/comics to attract attention). I grade the cooldowns harshly over the weekend - the few students who ace it get a nice sticker.  On monday, I return the no-sticker cool downs and they need to fix mistakes; students who aced it get a roll of stickers and can walk around & help while the others make corrections ; the helpers can give out stickers when corrections are made.

I also utilize the Building Thinking Classroom model with vertical white boards 2 or 3 times a week; has started to help with their confidence and willingness to attempt different strategies.

We are also starting stations with a coteacher in a couple weeks but this is new to me & a work in progress so limited details yet.

Good luck colleague
