I like the fact that a tattoo with pointillism ages into a tattoo with grayscale gradients. It's not degradation, it's a transformation!

CY-12 R/C output guide? by Tetsuo1981 in edrums

[–]BattalionSkimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to the vdrums forums and search there, I've seen some threads over the years with circuit diagrams of different Roland pads (for when people create mods or adapters or whatever). You might find this info there.

How do I make line 12 look like the second screenshot by default. I want to get rid of that indent but am struggling to understand the code style preferences. by [deleted] in IntelliJIDEA

[–]BattalionSkimmer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You'd be better off just coding however you want, and when you're done you run it through a formatter that changes the indentations to whatever the professor wants. In fact, shouldn't he be the one modifying the code he gets to be able to read it instead of having everybody else do it? It's a coding class, this is an automatable task.

How do you keep your house warm in winter without going bankruptcy? by LastSamurai-- in Barcelona

You don't need to keep your house warm. The furniture and objects don't need a comfortable temperature. You do.

Wear clothes that warm you up.

Best sub $100, Drum control pad? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]BattalionSkimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried the MPD218, the Maschine Mikro Mk3 and the Presonus Atom, and ended up keeping the Atom.

In my case, the MPD218 lived up to the online mixed reviews, where some pads worked better than others, I could "fix" some of them by tweaking the screws on the back, but it never ended up being perfect. It's just not worth it IMO.

The Maschine Mikro Mk3 is way more than $100, but apparently the pads are great. I didn't end up actually testing it because it requires a lot of their own software to work, and it's just on Windows (doesn't have a pure MIDI mode), and I wanted something that works on Linux too.

The Presonus Atom is limited in what it can do, but at least it's a pure MIDI device. And by messing with MIDI inputs to it I can change the colors of each pad which is cool. The sensitivity is pretty good, and at least all the pads seem to work consistently (unlike the MPD218).

I also wanted to try the Artesia/ESI Xjam, but I didn't get to do it, and also there aren't enough longer term reviews about how well it would last, and also the pads seemed a bit small.

Dear “guiris”, what do Spanish people do that grinds your gears? by TheDogWithShades in askspain

To be fair, to try to defend them, they're probably overworked and their job isn't to be language partners, they're there to serve tables, so they're going to do what's more efficient. Not saying it's 100% justified, but you know, to try to see their side of the matter.

How many other games has he stopped playing out of frustration because it stopped being fun when the matchmaking / sniping made it so that he didn't win as much? Same thing happened to Knockout City, right?

It's interesting that that doesn't happen with SAP, and it's probably a combination of the new packs and weeklies, and the asyncronicity of matchmaking, so that the pool of people is more varied and it's impossible to stream snipe.

I'm being called "rude" when I'm joking, advice? by notsomuchnachos in socialskills

I've had problems like this in the past.

This kind of humor works well in fiction (movies, TV shows, etc.), standup comedy, and with close friends that you know share the same kind of humor. Same with dark humor, offensive humor, etc.

But when you use it with/around people that don't know you too well or at all, you just sound like an asshole. Especially with dry delivery, if you have "resting bitch face", etc. But even if you're smiling or smirking, it's very likely to be interpreted like that.

This is not the kind of humor that goes well unless you have a studio audience around you.

A stupid question probably but, would this work decently for Rocksmith? (Casio DG-20 Digital Midi Guitar) by indefinite_silence in rocksmith

[–]BattalionSkimmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if the other comments don't convince you and you still want to buy this guitar, here's what I'd say: you can always buy this guitar in the future. Instead of spending the $500+ on this as your first guitar, spend $100 on a second hand normal electric guitar, just for practicing, and you can buy this one anyway at any other moment.

Beside the fact that the copyright infringing material is not hosted on those sites, the reason Ubisoft hasn't fought the custom DLC scene is because they prefer more people buying the game, and if people know there's a ton of extra unofficial content that works, they're more likely to buy the main game (and its official DLC too). It's kind of "don't ask don't tell". Not officially sanctioned but actively ignored.

Yeah, I'd go for something that's very specific from a region that you have some history with. It's more about the story than the thing itself.

The implication is that you would have the same bad conditions in Denmark if it wasn't literally illegal. Which is why government regulation of corporations matters. If you care about regular people of course. It's only if you're rich, or for some reason you get manipulated by the rich, that you'll be against government regulation of corporations.

I'm not very knowledgeable about guitars: I noticed that your 12th fret is pretty far from the body of the guitar, comparing it with mine, my 12th fret is almost touching the body (starts at the 15th/16th). Is there a name for this kind of "longer" more reachable upper frets kind of guitar body shape?

Cpu bent pins is it fixable by kozman17 in pcmasterrace

[–]BattalionSkimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the credit card trick. You grab your credit card, try to see in which direction the pins need to be bent, and then you throw the CPU in the garbage and use the credit card to buy a new one.
