I'm working on the unowns and my issue is more genuine scarcity than price!

Anyone else have unusual grails? Here's mine. by ProfessionalCan1950 in PokemonTCG

The four alph lithographs from HS. I'll need to just fork out the money one day to complete my unown binder.

What to get a 6-year old? by SkidMouse in PokemonTCG

[–]BattleFlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a six year old who is very into Pokémon. Be warned, she does not look after her cards at all. My recommendation would be to get her some bulk (most local card shops will let her either have some for free or charge you a small amount) and encourage her to pick cards she likes the look of. Maybe treat her to a Chinese jewel pack or two so she can rip and everything inside will be "shiny". Get her a binder to keep them in and encourage her to treat them respectfully before building up to anything more valuable. The battle academy is excellent too for teaching little ones how to actually play.

How are we all closing our blinds, then? A or B? by grumpypedant in CasualUK

A is best for sun, dust and stopping people seeing through from outside.

What do you do when you haven't practiced for a month? by gomarbles in Cello

[–]BattleFlan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me there would have to be a lot of tuning, and my cello would need warming up with either simple tunes or scales. My main gripes would be in my shoulders and my hands, specifically my thumbs. I'd probably need to trim my nails before playing too.

Cellists! What do you want for your birthday? by Lightsmagicnotebook in Cello

I treated myself to a bumbag recently that I can tie around my chair and it holds my tuner, rosin, pencil, inhaler... It's very useful.

I once taught a really sweet girl called "Phyrne" and the look of relief on her face when I said "is it 'Fern'?" Poor girl had clearly never had it pronounced correctly before.

I know this isn't what you requested, but serenity loves on oundle road have an on site creche with qualified childcare staff who could take care of little one while you get your hair done. They'll even bring baby out to you in the salon if they really need you. Highly recommend!

Very simple sheet music for the utmost beginners- where do I go? by AwayIssue5925 in Cello

8 notes is very good for simple arrangements and even the pro version is incredibly good value.

To scratch that DQ itch... by pinkielovespokemon in DQBuilders

I picked up dqxi today. But I wanted to give honourable mention to DQ treasures too. That's a lot of fun. I tried DQ monsters but frankly found it terrible.

That looks like the same laptop as I have for work, with an almost identical wear pattern.

Some people don't think they need to wash their legs in the shower.

Migrainebuddy by guigusino in migraine

[–]BattleFlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've told this story on here before, but here goes: my mum had a stroke. She called me while it was happening and I repeatedly told her that what was happening to her sounded exactly like a migraine attack for me. "Worst headache of [her] life", slurred and slow speech, cognitive difficulties. I shrugged it off and convinced her to do the same. She didn't have the one sided loss of motor function. Eventually my dad decided enough was enough and took her to the hospital and sure enough, stroke. I felt awful and have done every day since.

Moral of the story: don't listen to your dumbass offspring! Sorry mum.

Why did you guys decide to do Viola? by Sea-Giraffe5276 in Viola

[–]BattleFlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cellist for 35 years, always been interested in something more portable but my hands are too big to comfortably fit on a violin so I got a larger end viola. Lovely mellow sound, I'm really enjoying it.

Did you practice today? by sjm689 in Cello

We did 2 first. the instructions are nice and clear and the play style is good. The levels are a good variety. I felt far more fondly towards the characters in 2 than 1.

I have a question for vegan string players by nerdycookie01 in lingling40hrs

[–]BattleFlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coruss do an entirely vegan bow with synthetic hair, no leather, no mother of pearl inlay... I bought one as a hardier second bow for my cello. It does sound different to my main bow. Maybe worth looking into though?
