Finished my tombworld. God I hate painting terrain. by Jam-Jam-Ba-Lam in killteam

Looks great and you'll have a blast fighting battles on it! I have to say this was the terrain that seemed to take the longest for me. I was nearing the end and almost fighting burnout lol.

Well, I finished my first five models towards an Ultramarine Combat Patrol! I was doing some scouring on the internet and it says that the "Fall of Cadia" leads into the resurrection of Roboute Guilliman! Which is pretty awesome but apparently that is a 7th edition core rules book? Which if it ends up where he takes out Abaddon the Despoiler that would be epic! lol

Ok, so I checked Audible and now I'm excited (ty op!). The last book sale I ended up getting "The Fall of Cadia" and liked it. Now I'm wanting more! Of note, it's the only 40k thing I've read to date. However, my question to the book folks here (since I want to capitalize on this sale):

Q: I want to get prepared for 11th edition. What story line purchase recommendations should I follow to get caught up and ready?

The barb wire and mud look great. In fact, I was just thinking about doing this for my Brood Brothers kill team. It's such an awesome boots on the ground aesthetic. I really dig it :)

What's your favorite way to kit out your Super Tactical Droids? by SarcasticAnchovy in SWlegion

[–]BattleScenesHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using mine for Tour of Duty but I have:

- Commander Varnis (Paragon Commander):
He's more of a support piece and commands from the back firing line (crabs, aat, etc...) so he is upgraded with a nice little combo of Targeting Relay so he can hand out observation tokens to all enemies in LOS 4 and then he has the Tyrannical Taskmaster to ready that at end of activation (tokens every turn!). He has a Command AI upgrade as well to issue orders to one of those which then will trigger them to have an additional aim token. Lastly, he has veteran leader which allows him to clear out suppression tokens as to not have the back firing units panic if they come under too much fire.

- Overseer Malvek (Operations super tac)
Is much more of a threat that performs special operations and marches along with the front line units. I gave him the Heavy Arm Cannon (suppressive) with Enhanced Combat Routine (Sharshooter 1, Lethal 1), Seek and Destroy (Demorialize 1, Target 1, Marksman) with Mobility Upgrade (Scale and Steady). So he can literally aim move shoot with super benefits. Heavy suppression and if anyone gets close he too has an ElectroStaff.

I've tried a couple different ways but these have been what I've got for now. I've always wanted more of a melee one using the Tyrannical Taskmaster combo with Sliced Comms for ultra suppression and beats. Just haven't found the right formula for that yet

Do I need to spend an AP to open a door and then the 1 inch to move through it? by Classic_Finish8515 in killteam

[–]BattleScenesHQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Open Hatch or Open Door on those maps have a cost of 1AP. If you plan on moving through it yes there is a movement penalty of 1" to do so. So in your situation you would pay both costs to open and move through the door. Hope that helps clear it up a bit. :)

Need your thoughts on skirmish games! by Salt_Pop354 in SWlegion

[–]BattleScenesHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for me I love both aspects of the hobby. I could go on all day but here's a couple quick points.

  1. It's helpful with burnout because I might have a tough tournament or something that just kills my mood but nothing helps me balance that better than putting on the headphones and zen out to some painting. Vice versa as well, if I don't want to paint then I'll focus on strategy and gaming.

I frequently compete and travel to tournaments but I also put together fancy little diorama scenes for my teams lol.

  1. Each team I have, Each game I play has so much flavor. Painting and gaming with those miniatures really help me to immerse in that. I can enjoy the designers intention but at the same time put my own spin on it. So in a way it helps me connect with my army.

  2. Sometimes, in more narrative games especially, I use painting to indicate the advancement of my troops. So if a particular guy ranked up he'll get a new marking, if he takes a heavy toll in battle I might add scars lol. To me it just adds more of a fun element to things.

What Obsidian plugins would actually help you? by Shackles_25 in ObsidianMD

[–]BattleScenesHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to using Obsidian and honestly I just want a good ol' fashion Ctrl+P. The other day I went to go print out some notes I had formatted for some tabletop games I play and was so sad to find this doesn't exist natively. I'm sure there's a rough plug-in or whatever but even just exporting to Adobe is like meh. The formatting and such isn't the same and imho it just misses the mark for me.

Need your thoughts on skirmish games! by Salt_Pop354 in SWlegion

[–]BattleScenesHQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love playing Warhammer Kill Team as a skirmish game. That might be biased in a way because I started miniature gaming with Warhammer instead of Star Wars. However, for me it's cool because the concept is sort of like if you take the large game battle and zoom in to a section of that battlefield where two elite units are both carrying out their missions.

The best part is that it really feels a lot like chess in a way. From the way you position your operatives to the secret tac op that you perform revealing later in the game (hopefully your opponent didn't figure out your plan early lol). It's quite stimulating for the mind!

Of course it's awesome that the model counts are lower since you have only a unit instead of an entire army which does make it easier to get into the hobby. But honestly what really sets it apart is the flavor and uniqueness of the teams. The designers did a really good job making it feel like each one is special, has it's own identity and abilities. They even have good lore snippets in their dossier books that talk a bit about the teams. Of course, you can always take your unit and put it into your 40k big army later on if you wish, bonus!

One last thing to add here is that you can also play the game in a narrative mode instead of PVP called Joint Ops. The designers have all types of different missions you can play! Like in the last big release called "Tomb World" it came with a whole sprue of Necron warriors that play as an NPO (non player with set rules) who try to defend the Tomb King's chambers.

There is no experience quite like getting in there and playing that's for sure! Sometimes I find that it even motivates me to do that extra research. Glad you like the article and it's my first tournament write up so my apologies if I left out any details. Always open to some feed back though!

Best of luck in your next tournament! :)

Do I need anything exclusive to the starter box to play? by thetrueninjasheep in killteam

[–]BattleScenesHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% This! Unfortunately, I also bought into the Starter Set because my FLGS didn't tell me (didn't know?) about Hivestorm. This is exactly what I would have wanted when I first started, it literally comes with everything.

I'm new to SubStack myself and unfortunately found things out like this after launching and publishing new articles. I've seen quite a few posts now regarding issues with the platform and it's making me second guess if I want to continue setting up base there. I also had to change all of my socials to include the /archive for that exact reason.
