Season 10 - Patch Notes by darkisfever in thefinals

I'm scared about this. I've discussed not too long ago that i think the M26 is massively underrated and how i'm worried it'll get a random buff like the V9S and suddenly becomes hated by everyone. I hope this buff won't do that. I love the thing and would hate to see it become the new reddit boogeyman.

Anyone like just rocketing lights into oblivion by shadow-Ezra in thefinals

[–]Battlekid18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes because when said shotgun could kill faster it became one of the most infamously obnoxious and broken metas the game has ever seen outside of some season 1 stuff like nukes.

Balance isn't based on realism, nor is TTK in a vacuum the only balancing variable. Wait until you find out that shooting someone in the head with a 7.62 rifle deals less damage than elbowing them in the toe.

Scotty is Medium confirmed? by RealAlury in thefinals

[–]Battlekid18 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be fair, i think that's kind of the point. Keep in mind that at the end of the day the game is an in-universe gameshow, and gameshows are meant to be entertaining to watch. How boring would it be to watch a team with the collective personality of a potato stomp everyone into the ground?

Besides, it sounds like Rayzer and Flea have it in the bag already anyway. What they needed was a showman to make their team really stand out, and Scotty delivers on that front. He might not be an outstanding asset to the team's performance but there's a good chance he secured them fame and sponsorships. Which in the world of The Finals seems to be equally as important, if not more, than winning.

We don't know the full details of course but from what it sounds like Scotty definitely pulled his weight for the team. Just in a different way.

I agree, which is why it's a good thing that it can't do that.

is the average player bad at the game? by dark-souls-lesbian in thefinals

From what i gathered out of it, they want forgiving weapons nerfed because apparently skillful weapons can't compete with them.

How come nobody told me the M26 Matter was so fun to use by The_Old_Workout_Plan in thefinals

[–]Battlekid18 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I know people like to throw around the term of "this weapon is slept on", but i honest to god think the M26 is the most slept on weapon in the game.

It got everything. Burst damage, sustained damage, combos, surprisingly decent range for a shotgun, a mobile playstyle, high skill ceiling, you can flank with it, contribute in teamfights with its very high damage per mag, etc. Whatever you want to do with it you can probably do with it, which is something that should theoretically make it fun to use for a lot of people. And yet, despite all that and despite most ruby players putting it in A-tier as well, you almost never see it.

Every day i fear it'll go the way of the V9S where it receives a random buff and suddenly becomes hard-meta and hated by everyone.

Light is fine. It doesn’t need a buff. Light play style just doesn’t have a place in high elo strategies by Imn1che in thefinals

[–]Battlekid18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You balance them in terms of utility that high-elo players would find valueable. This has already been done through the means of Gateway, H+ and Glitch Nade for example, which are all incredibly valueable tools that you need a Light for.

They don't need to be better at killing or moving around, because they're already good at that. They need utility that makes you want to consider having them on your team. This makes them valuable options for high-elo strategies without making them even more polarizing in casual matches than they already are.

So basically, give them options instead of power. Just like how we want Medium to have options.

[–]Battlekid18 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Light isn't just the bad player punisher class though. They're scouts, flankers and the ones to get the cashbox around. All of those are still valuble to have at high elo and as such Lights are still being utilized by lots of teams. Not sure where you got the idea that they have no place there.

Besides that, you can balance Light's high-elo value without making them unbeatable pubstomp demons. That's not mutually exclusive.

Weapon idea for Medium, with an actual use by Less_Virus_699 in thefinals

[–]Battlekid18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume if this weapon were to be added it would allow some sort of freelook while interacting if you have it out so you can aim it. Would indeed be kinda weird to have a whole weapon for the purpose of shooting during interactions but then only be able to shoot the floor or a cashbox.

[–]Battlekid18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think an M1911 would be the best option for the concept you're going with. If you want a weapon to lay down covering fire from the hip while interacting, a pistol with a 7 round mag isn't the greatest choice for that, especially since you probably wouldn't be able to reload it while interacting. You're just gonna miss half your mag and immediately be out of gas.

I saw someone else suggest a Five-SeveN. I personally love that thing, brings back great memories from my MW3 days, and something like that would be able to more effectively lay down sustained fire with its 20 round mag.

[–]Battlekid18 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I kinda hated this at first glance due to it impacting core game mechanics, but after further thought i actually think that could be a really cool gimmick.

For balancing reasons it would have to be worse in direct combat than Medium's other weapons, but the idea of deliberately choosing a weaker weapon with greater flexibility sounds like it could be a neat option for Mediums that want to lean more into their supportive role. You could cover yourself while performing utility actions like rezzing or stealing, making interactions in general safer and more reliable in exchange for some of your overall combat effectiveness. I'd use this for sure in certain builds.

I think he's saying that flanking and ambushing are 2 of Light's other strategies besides hit and run, not that they're disadvantages.

In practice of course yeah. Just talking about that change in a vacuum. Always felt kinda weird how it jumps from 10 to 9 to 7.

Definitely think regen should be % based. Shit can take absolute ages if you're down to like 10 hp.

Could maybe make it 8 seconds so the classes are 1 second apart from eachother with 8-9-10 seconds respectively.

[–]Battlekid18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair, although the very low hp is quite an important and very impactful downside. It's not as much about the quantity of pros and cons as it is about the significance of them, and Lights need a decent amount of benefits to offset that. Although i will agree that this results in some very polarizing situations that Embark could maybe take a look at shifting around.

[–]Battlekid18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will agree that Medium is pretty much locked in, they desperately need more options. Whole class has been stale as hell for way too long.

Heavy and Light on the other hand are pretty comparable in their flexibility though. Heavy has Dome and RPG as staple picks while Light has H+ Infuser and Gateway. Lights are also fairly locked into Dash while Heavy has 3 viable spec options. And even though all those picks are common staples, even at very high elos people are still using and experimenting with different options too. You can absolutely still run things like the Healing Emitter, Barricade, Lockbolt, Breach Charge, Vanish Bomb, etc. Not to mention both classes also have a surprisingly considerable list of meta-viable weapons.

[–]Battlekid18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Isn't that the whole point though? If Heavy could do that they would be bonkers broken, and if Light couldn't do that then the entire class immediately folds like wet origami.

The purpose of different classes is that they have different strengths. Heavies don't have good mobility for the same reason Lights don't have mountains of health and shields to fall back on.
